Paul Burger is yet another BFF that I met at Alt Summit last January. He runs the very fabulous cargoh.com {a curated marketplace for independent artists & designers} with his partner in crime/wife Cariann Nesler. What started as small talk at a party in Salt Lake City, has turned into an amazing friendship that I feel very blessed to have.  For whatever reason this unbelievably generous guy is looking out for me… yes, I have referred to him as my fairy-blog-father {although he’s younger than me!} on more than one occasion. And now, as if he wasn’t awesome enough, he sends me this very cool guest post:

I’m jealous of The Post Family…

The idea of a creative collective is not a new one, but it’s the utter coolness of The Post Family that has captured my (insane) jealousy! The Post Family was born back in 2007 when seven Chicago artists and designers (Rod, Chad, David, Davey, Sam, Alex and Scott) decided to get together and create the ultimate “boy’s club”. They shared a love of creating. That feeling of paint under your finger nails that is somewhat lost when you spend 15 hours a day at a keyboard like most of us do these days. With the common belief that “design can change the world” they decided to pool their money and get a space, a letterpress, and a screen-printer and get back to making things. In their own words : “Everything is for the growth of our family members and community by supplying them with the resources and inspiration to accomplish their individual goals.”

Their work is nothing short of spectacular, but it’s not the reason I’m jealous. It’s the underlying core values that seem to run through the veins of these guys. The very notion of calling something a “family” rather than a “business” is simply genius. It fundamentally shifts the focus away from making money, and to just doing something that you love. Doing what you love and worrying about the rest later seems to have worked out really well for these guys. Their unique outlook on the creative process has landed them gigs like the 2008 Obama Campaign, and won the hearts of the art and design community around the world. So let’s raise a glass! Here’s to The Post Family for teaching us to just “Go with the Flow”, for inspiring us to do what we love and trusting that the rest will follow, and for showing us that when in doubt, family comes first!

So, so good. Thanks Burger~ can’t wait to see you at Alt in 2012! xo

I do accept as true with all the concepts you’ve introduced for your post. They’re really convincing and will certainly work. Nonetheless, the posts are too short for starters. May just you please lengthen them a little from subsequent time? Thank you for the post.
