danielle kroll

Pickles, ponies, and party dresses!! Now THAT is a sketchbook! And the creator of these amazing “sketches”… Brooklyn based artist, illustrator, AND designer Danielle Kroll. Now, if this is what her unfinished work looks like, just image the finished pieces! She has done all sorts of things for clients like Anthropologie, and Land of Nod just to name drop a couple of biggies.

One of my favorite things, aside from that fab sketchbook of course, is this personal project:

“In August 2012 I backpacked through the John Muir Trail. These photos are some of the sites I saw along the 200+ miles. There’s a lot of time to think while hiking and a few images really stuck in my mind – like what if the trail was rainbow colored? It certainly would be easier to follow.”

Sigh.

i’m jealous of claire softley

Ok, so, I’m a “dog person” … or so I thought! … I cannot get enough of these CATS! They are the work of UK based artist/illustrator Claire Softley, and I want a close up of each one of them in their own kitty-enhancing frame hung in a giant feline-grid on my living room wall! Now, I should point out that Claire makes a lot of work that doesn’t involve cats in any way. My faves are these shelves of cacti, and this lovely abstract piece:

Gorgeous. And with that, I’ll wish a happy weekend to all of you cat, and cactus, lovers out there! {apparently, that’s me!}

i’m jealous of kimiaki yaegashi

You really want a slice of pizza now, don’t you? Me too! Now I just need a bikini and a couple of weird side-kicks to help me eat a pepperoni n’ mushroom n’ green pepper special! Maybe I could invite Tokyo based artist/illustrator Kimiaki Yaegashi – I have a feeling he’d be up for it! He makes all sorts of weird and wonderful things. You know, things like stencil prints of girls riding llamas & dinosaurs:

Love! AND pretty much everything he makes is available as prints, bags or T-shirts!

{I found some of the pizza images on Booooooom, and the rest on Kimiaki’s site}

i’m jealous of ashley goldberg… again

Ah yes, there is always something new, fun and kinda weird in the portfolio of American artist Ashley Goldberg… today that includes a lemon head girl, a cactus, a couple of slightly odd foxy creatures, and of course a masked cat-girl. Have a great weekend! I hope it’s filled with new, fun, and kinda weird things!

i’m jealous of alice ferrow

Um… I love all of these pieces by London based artist/illustrator Alice Ferrow. Beautiful little collections, tiny cactus, coral, bell jars… and a bobcat. And her color choices? Don’t even get me started. Ok, now… here’s the thing. I am terrified of snakes. Terrified. But I have to say, Alice might have convinced me that they’re actually quite pretty:

Yep. When they’re 2D, and completely motionless, I like them. Kinda.

i’m jealous of brian cronin

I’m not sorry! In fact, I couldn’t be less sorry about showing you the work of Dublin born, Brooklyn based artist/illustrator Brian Cronin. Beautiful, vintage-inspired worlds that I would really love to visit … cable knit tents and baskets for bike helmets … oh yes, this is my kind o’ place! Now, not only am I smitten with Brian’s paintings, so is Milton Glaser. That’s right. Milton. Glaser. Here’s what one of the most famous graphic designers in the USA has to say about Brian’s work:

“Brian Cronin, who worked for me when he was an innocent lad from Ireland, has blossomed into one of the best practitioners for design and illustration in the field”.

Well that’s not too shabby, is it!?

{I found Brian’s work at ReneeRhynerShop.com. Pop over and have a look when you have a moment – lots of lovely work at affordable prices. I want that girl on the bike!}

i’m jealous of sam battersby

I don’t know what I love most… the mermaids, the bird tattoos, or that lady in her red swimsuit? Gah! They’re all so pretty. These are the charcoal and pastel drawings of Sydney based artist/illustrator Sam Battersby {aka Matou en Peluche, her Etsy shop where you can buy prints of all of these pieces}. So. Pretty.

ps. I’m a tiny bit scared of the cat-lady, but only a tiny bit. She’s still pretty.

hoppy easter 2013

I couldn’t resist! A few bunnies for you, by Japanese artist/illustrator Aiko Fukawa, on Easter! Have a lovely long weekend … I’ll be back tomorrow … full of chocolate.

i’m jealous of yuki kitazumi

A leisurely breakfast, a trip to the circus, and then a little research on how to make my garden grow! Ah yes, that’s what my weekend would be like if I lived in the illustrations of Tokyo based artist Yuki Kitazumi. I spotted her Encyclopedia of Roses on Pinterest a few nights ago, and boy oh boy, I love where it lead me! Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m suddenly in the mood for a little bread n’ honey. Happy weekend to you!

i’m jealous of kelly puissegur

HA! I love art that makes me laugh. These make me laugh. This is the work of Kelly Puissegur {aka retro whale}. I mentioned Kelly quickly in my last post, as she was one of the finalists in last year’s UncommonGoods art contest. Anyway, as soon as I started poking around her portfolio, I just kept finding gem after gem after gem! Girl fights, and animals doing ‘the robot’… oh yeah! And, because I am in fact a child of the 80’s, I had no choice but to show these:

Hahahahaha! Sigh… love.

{ps. On a totally unrelated note, I finally posted a bunch of photos from ‘beautifully boring’ on Facebook, in case you’re interested.}
