i’m jealous of brian cronin

I’m not sorry! In fact, I couldn’t be less sorry about showing you the work of Dublin born, Brooklyn based artist/illustrator Brian Cronin. Beautiful, vintage-inspired worlds that I would really love to visit … cable knit tents and baskets for bike helmets … oh yes, this is my kind o’ place! Now, not only am I smitten with Brian’s paintings, so is Milton Glaser. That’s right. Milton. Glaser. Here’s what one of the most famous graphic designers in the USA has to say about Brian’s work:

“Brian Cronin, who worked for me when he was an innocent lad from Ireland, has blossomed into one of the best practitioners for design and illustration in the field”.

Well that’s not too shabby, is it!?

{I found Brian’s work at ReneeRhynerShop.com. Pop over and have a look when you have a moment – lots of lovely work at affordable prices. I want that girl on the bike!}

i’m jealous of sam battersby

I don’t know what I love most… the mermaids, the bird tattoos, or that lady in her red swimsuit? Gah! They’re all so pretty. These are the charcoal and pastel drawings of Sydney based artist/illustrator Sam Battersby {aka Matou en Peluche, her Etsy shop where you can buy prints of all of these pieces}. So. Pretty.

ps. I’m a tiny bit scared of the cat-lady, but only a tiny bit. She’s still pretty.

hoppy easter 2013

I couldn’t resist! A few bunnies for you, by Japanese artist/illustrator Aiko Fukawa, on Easter! Have a lovely long weekend … I’ll be back tomorrow … full of chocolate.

i’m jealous of yuki kitazumi

A leisurely breakfast, a trip to the circus, and then a little research on how to make my garden grow! Ah yes, that’s what my weekend would be like if I lived in the illustrations of Tokyo based artist Yuki Kitazumi. I spotted her Encyclopedia of Roses on Pinterest a few nights ago, and boy oh boy, I love where it lead me! Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m suddenly in the mood for a little bread n’ honey. Happy weekend to you!

i’m jealous of kelly puissegur

HA! I love art that makes me laugh. These make me laugh. This is the work of Kelly Puissegur {aka retro whale}. I mentioned Kelly quickly in my last post, as she was one of the finalists in last year’s UncommonGoods art contest. Anyway, as soon as I started poking around her portfolio, I just kept finding gem after gem after gem! Girl fights, and animals doing ‘the robot’… oh yeah! And, because I am in fact a child of the 80’s, I had no choice but to show these:

Hahahahaha! Sigh… love.

{ps. On a totally unrelated note, I finally posted a bunch of photos from ‘beautifully boring’ on Facebook, in case you’re interested.}

call for entries!

Yep, it’s true! UncommonGoods is having an art contest, and they want to see what’s in your portfolio… AND, they’ve asked me to be one of the judges {pressure}. So, the deadline is MARCH 31st, 2013, and the grand prize… $500 + 5% royalties on a limited edition of 100 prints. Not too shabby! So, are you ready? Of course you are! You can find all of the rules right here. I can’t wait to see what you send in… Good luck!

{These are my three faves from the 2012 contest: 1) Kelly Puissegur 2) Kat Shoa 3) Valerie Galloway}

i’m jealous of mary kate mcdevitt

I am waking up in Philadelphia this morning, getting ready for tomorrow’s GIRL CRUSH with the lovely Shauna Alterio {where amazing things will happen!}, and I thought it was appropriate to feature a Philly-born* artist for the weekend post! Enter the hand-lettering work of  Mary Kate McDevitt… so fun, so charming, and her color choices are fantastic! Can I get a HIGH 5? Nice!

* Mary Kate is now based in Portland, but then this post wouldn’t have been quite as timely!

i’m jealous of charlotte mei

That’s it… from now on, I’m choosing my breakfast plate based on the mood I wake up in:

I’m hoping that ‘happy toast’ wins out most mornings! London based artist/illustrator Charlotte Mei has a portfolio full of drawings and illustrations, but it was her ceramics that got me. Grumpy, surprised, & sad plates… and of course, my favorite, some happy toast. ♥

i’m jealous of angie iver

Exercise instructions for artists? Perhaps! This is the strange/lovely work of Düsseldorf based artist Angie Iver. Ahh, such black blacks, and oh so many lovely shapes. This is the kind of “how to” guide I need for my work out routine… and apparently, to really do it right, I’m going to need some heels:

… and a cigarette!

i’m still jealous of ashley goldberg

Oh boy. I wrote about Portland based artist/illustrator Ashley Goldberg about three years ago… and here we are again! Little houses, little birds, and little beards {and little birds with little beards, of course!}. I have to admit though, my main reason for writing this post was so that I could show this painting. I have always loved this painting:

Sigh. Awesome.

{ps. Ashley is yet another artist who will be featured in my upcoming book… Q. Who’s crazy excited?! A. Yep, it’s me!}
