{"id":13574,"date":"2013-02-11T14:41:04","date_gmt":"2013-02-11T22:41:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.thejealouscurator.com\/blog\/?p=13574"},"modified":"2013-02-11T14:41:04","modified_gmt":"2013-02-11T22:41:04","slug":"jealous-at-utc","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.thejealouscurator.com\/blog\/2013\/02\/11\/jealous-at-utc\/","title":{"rendered":"jealous at UTC"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>When I was in Chattanooga last week, I was invited by the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.utc.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\">University of Tennessee at Chattanooga<\/a>, to visit the studios of some of the BFA students. Here&#8217;s what I found:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.thejealouscurator.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/utc1.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-13584\" title=\"utc1\" src=\"http:\/\/www.thejealouscurator.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/utc1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"450\" height=\"2732\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Love! I spent about 6 hours with them, and what impressed me most was how open they were &#8211; so interested in experimenting, playing around, and finding their own way. When I did my undergrad that was not encouraged &#8211; it felt very competitive, and quite frankly pretty negative &#8211; the critiques were rarely positive and seemed like a chance to bash each other, rather than encourage each other. These art students were so excited, and supportive &#8211; it was a joy to be around! And their studios, in an old carriage house on the University property, are filled with painted floors, twinkle lights, and art supplies on the floor, shelves, walls, couches, and table tops. Made me wish I was a student again&#8230; well, as long as I got to be in this program!
