This is a beautiful book of poetry, written by American poet <a href=\"http:\/\/thestorialist.blogspot.ca\/\" target=\"_blank\">Hannah Stephenson<\/a>. She is an amazing writer\/editor\/teacher, with a great love for visual art. In fact, a lot of her poems are inspired by art&#8230; sometimes even work that she finds here! For example, after seeing the ceramics of <a href=\"http:\/\/carolineslotte.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Caroline Slotte<\/a>,\u00a0Hannah wrote this:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.thejealouscurator.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/hannah_stephenson_plates.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-15410\" title=\"hannah_stephenson_plates\" src=\"http:\/\/www.thejealouscurator.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/hannah_stephenson_plates.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"450\" height=\"1352\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong><em>Great Migration<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>Patterns on china have begun<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>to show evidence of a great migration.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Waves roll out to a plate\u2019s edges,<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>drop off, are absorbed into carpet.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>In the stock-still water, feeling no wind,<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>cranes panic and launch, beat their wings<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>with such force that nearby villagers<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>mistake them for dragons.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Smaller birds leave their nests in the trees,<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>head for the dark, unporcelain woods.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Lovers no longer come here<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>to sit on the grass together,<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>discovering speechless ways to speak.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>They stay away from this place.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>The land here isn\u2019t fed by any source.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Parents shield their children\u2019s eyes,<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>pull them close when passing the pond.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Someone should do something, they mutter<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>and leave the land to its calm disintegration.<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><em>Whoa. <\/em>Her newly released book, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.barnesandnoble.com\/w\/in-the-kettle-the-shriek-hannah-stephenson\/1112164113?ean=9780985919122\" target=\"_blank\"><em>In the Kettle, The Shriek<\/em>,<\/a> is filled with beautiful poem after beautiful poem&#8230; but I also wanted to share something that isn&#8217;t in this book. Now, you know I realllllly don&#8217;t like showing my own work, but&#8230; last year I had <a href=\"http:\/\/assembleshop.blogspot.ca\/2012\/11\/special-guest-post-danielle-krysa-aka.html#.UfgbmWRT0nU\" target=\"_blank\">a show at Seattle&#8217;s Assemble Gallery<\/a>. Hannah saw one of the pieces, wrote a poem, and sent it to me. I almost cried. I could not be more honored&#8230; and I love the poem so, so, so much&#8230; I love it so much in fact, that I&#8217;ll even show you my work that went with it, titled <em>&#8220;Jeremy Brown jumped over this at a bush party.&#8221; <\/em><\/p>\n<p><a style=\"font-style: italic;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.thejealouscurator.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/hannah_stephenson_couch.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-15409\" title=\"hannah_stephenson_couch\" src=\"http:\/\/www.thejealouscurator.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/hannah_stephenson_couch.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"450\" height=\"997\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.thejealouscurator.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/hannah_stephenson_couch.jpg 450w, https:\/\/www.thejealouscurator.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/hannah_stephenson_couch-135x300.jpg 135w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 450px) 100vw, 450px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong><em>Living Daylights<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>To find that part of me<br \/>\nstill flickering,<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>to chew and exhale flames,<br \/>\na dragon with a mouth<br \/>\ncrammed with Bazooka Joe,<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>to use my heart<br \/>\nas a flashlight,<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>to meet my ghost<br \/>\nas a dance partner,<br \/>\nspinning away from me,<br \/>\nand back toward me,<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>to sift out the glowing shards<br \/>\nwith unshaking hands<br \/>\nand swallow them back down,<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>to greet my fiery shadow,<br \/>\nsaying, here is our bed,<br \/>\nour mirror, we can learn<br \/>\none another again.<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>LOVE!
