Today I&#8217;m chatting with LA based photographer <a href=\"http:\/\/maxwanger.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Max Wanger<\/a>&#8230; not Wagner. I&#8217;ve written about Max, and featured a few of his pieces in a show at\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.thejealouscurator.com\/blog\/2013\/07\/26\/sneak-peek-art-show-at-the-fig-house\/\" target=\"_blank\">The Fig House<\/a>, but we&#8217;ve only met once very quickly. I didn&#8217;t know much about his story, but I do now. The first thing that shocked me\u00a0&#8211;\u00a0spoiler alert &#8211; he&#8217;s\u00a0completely self-taught! Anyway, I can&#8217;t give it all away&#8230; you can listen right up there under those little legs, or <a href=\"https:\/\/itunes.apple.com\/podcast\/jealous-curator-art-for-your\/id996338562\" target=\"_blank\">subscribe on iTunes<\/a>. As you\u2019re listening, take a\u00a0look at the work we talked about in the order that we talked about it. First up, design bloggers. That&#8217;s who Max\u00a0reached out to when he finally decided he\u00a0wanted to follow his bliss and become a photographer:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.thejealouscurator.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/max2.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-23330\" src=\"http:\/\/www.thejealouscurator.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/max2.jpg\" alt=\"max2\" width=\"584\" height=\"2095\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.thejealouscurator.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/max2.jpg 584w, https:\/\/www.thejealouscurator.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/max2-84x300.jpg 84w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 584px) 100vw, 584px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>And it worked! Not only did they write about him, but he also photographed them&#8230; and became good friends along the way. If you follow design blogs you might recognize <em>(above)\u00a0<\/em>Bri Emery from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.designlovefest.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Design Love Fest<\/a>\u00a0 ; the hands of Joy Cho <em>(and her husband)<\/em> of <a href=\"http:\/\/ohjoy.blogs.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Oh Joy<\/a>\u00a0 ;\u00a0and Joanna Goddard <em>(and her husband)<\/em> of <a href=\"http:\/\/cupofjo.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Cup of Jo<\/a>. So, how did a self-taught photographer who was working at Fox Sports get the attention of a bunch of design blogs? He staged a fake wedding, with a fake ring, starring his sister as the bride, photographed it, and sent them these images:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.thejealouscurator.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/max3.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-23331\" src=\"http:\/\/www.thejealouscurator.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/max3.jpg\" alt=\"max3\" width=\"584\" height=\"604\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.thejealouscurator.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/max3.jpg 584w, https:\/\/www.thejealouscurator.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/max3-290x300.jpg 290w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 584px) 100vw, 584px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>So smart! This was in 2007 or so&#8230; and he hasn&#8217;t looked back.\u00a0In fact, he&#8217;s still doing weddings! He splits his time between weddings and\u00a0commercial work. She does some really cool\u00a0personal\u00a0Polaroid work, if <a href=\"http:\/\/www.jengotch.com\/defaced_main1.html\" target=\"_blank\">you want to check out <\/a>what Max and I were\u00a0both drooling over. This of course led us to talking about Max&#8217;s Polaroids. I asked if he had a favorite&#8230;\u00a0iPhone or Polaroid. See if you can decide.
