This is the gorgeous work of LA based artist\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.walkercontemporary.com\/elisa-johns\/\" target=\"_blank\">Elisa Johns<\/a>. Some of her work is oil on canvas, and other pieces are acrylic &amp; ink on paper&#8230; like those two snakes&#8230; who I had to make a bit smaller\u00a0and put in the middle of the post so they didn&#8217;t freak me out too much. Luckily they&#8217;re flanked by blossoming acrylic\/ink fireweed, so that helps. Here is Elisa&#8217;s artist statement:<\/p>\n<div class=\"project-meta\">\n<div class=\"project-description\">\n<blockquote><p><em>&#8220;In a time when our perception of \u201cthe natural\u201d is obscured by urban living, my work delves into a fantasy in which bourgeois living collides with raw nature. Contemporary culture is obsessed with indicators of beauty. I take these indicators \u2013 beautiful people, animals, architecture \u2013 and place them within lushly painted landscapes. These elements become equally valued icons of desire and beauty. My intention is to establish a departure point into a fantastical narrative space.&#8221;<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Lovely.
