That&#8217;s what comes to mind when I think of the work of this artist. Today I&#8217;m talking to LA based German artist <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nikeschroeder.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Nike <em>(pronounced Nee-ka)<\/em> Schroeder<\/a>&#8230; I have to add that because for<em> years<\/em> I thought her name was Nike&#8230; like, you know, Nike. It&#8217;s not. It&#8217;s Nike <em>(Nee-ka)<\/em>. Ok, now that that&#8217;s out of the way, we can talk about her absolutely stunning work. Miles and miles of thread, porcelain, sometimes a bit of paint, and more thread. You can listen right up there,\u00a0or\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/itunes.apple.com\/podcast\/jealous-curator-art-for-your\/id996338562\" target=\"_blank\">subscribe on iTunes<\/a>.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>First things first&#8230; one of my faves&#8230; this installation, titled <em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nikeschroeder.com\/gallery-34\/\" target=\"_blank\">34\u00b0North 118\u00b0West<\/a> :<\/em><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.thejealouscurator.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/nike2.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-25071\" src=\"http:\/\/www.thejealouscurator.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/nike2.jpg\" alt=\"nike2\" width=\"584\" height=\"2409\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.thejealouscurator.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/nike2.jpg 584w, https:\/\/www.thejealouscurator.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/nike2-73x300.jpg 73w, https:\/\/www.thejealouscurator.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/nike2-248x1024.jpg 248w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 584px) 100vw, 584px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><em>Ah-<\/em>mazing&#8230; and the photos don&#8217;t even close to do her work justice. I&#8217;ve seen them in person and they&#8217;re so so so beautiful. The way they move in the slightest of breezes&#8230; magical. Next, these pieces are from an older series, titled <em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nikeschroeder.com\/2012\/\" target=\"_blank\">Fundamental Reports<\/a><\/em>. Speaking of which, this is the custom piece she made for interior designer\/stylist <a href=\"http:\/\/stylebyemilyhenderson.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Emily Henderson<\/a>&#8230; here&#8217;s the installation of\u00a0this colorful, ten foot beauty:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.thejealouscurator.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/nike4.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-25073\" src=\"http:\/\/www.thejealouscurator.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/nike4.jpg\" alt=\"nike4\" width=\"584\" height=\"2957\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.thejealouscurator.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/nike4.jpg 584w, https:\/\/www.thejealouscurator.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/nike4-59x300.jpg 59w, https:\/\/www.thejealouscurator.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/nike4-202x1024.jpg 202w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 584px) 100vw, 584px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><em>Ah!<\/em> And there it is featured in <a href=\"http:\/\/domino.com\/at-home-with-emily-henderson\" target=\"_blank\">Domino Magazine<\/a>&#8230; not too shabby!\u00a0I want to take full credit for this piece, because I introduced Emily to Nike&#8217;s work. Yep, this love affair started at\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.fighousela.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">The Fig House<\/a> &#8211; a gorgeous event space in LA that Emily designed. She asked me to curate the art, and Nike was one of the ten artists I chose. Match. Maker. Just sayin&#8217;.<\/p>\n<p>Next up, Nike&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nikeschroeder.com\/2015\/\" target=\"_blank\">latest show<\/a> where she went back to some of her figurative work&#8230; this time with paint&#8230; porcelain, and of course, THREAD. Much. Thread! And those windows <em>{and of course, those great shoes}<\/em>. Oh. Such beautiful work, and another episode that I loved. It never fails&#8230; in every single episode there is a moment when I get chills, and when Nike said \u201cnothing is a mistake\u201d \u00a0&#8211; that those layers and layers gives your work depth and wisdom because they have learned \u2013 yep I had a little shudder of excitement. <em>Sigh.<\/em> And with that, I will thanks to Nike for doing this with me, thanks to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.saatchiart.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Saatchi Art<\/a> for supporting the episode, and as always thanks to you for listening.
