She was beginning\u00a0to plan what she described as &#8220;a giant game of telephone, but with art&#8221;, and could I suggest a few visual artists that might be able to create something based on a piece of music she&#8217;d send\u00a0them&#8230; um, YES! It sounded fun, creative, and amazing&#8230; and it was! In 2014\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/consenses.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">Consenses<\/a>\u00a0opened to the public in Martha&#8217;s Vineyard, and today I get to ask Sally the ins and outs of this giant project. You can listen right up there under lovely Sally, or you can\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/itunes.apple.com\/podcast\/jealous-curator-art-for-your\/id996338562\" target=\"_blank\">subscribe on iTunes<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>First things first, we quickly have to talk about her parents, because:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.thejealouscurator.com\/blog\/2016\/06\/17\/a-giant-game-of-telephone-with-art\/sallytaylor2\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-25931\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-25931\" src=\"http:\/\/www.thejealouscurator.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/sallytaylor2.jpg\" alt=\"sallytaylor2\" width=\"584\" height=\"1012\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.thejealouscurator.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/sallytaylor2.jpg 584w, https:\/\/www.thejealouscurator.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/sallytaylor2-173x300.jpg 173w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 584px) 100vw, 584px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Yep, Sally is the daughter of American music icons,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.carlysimon.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Carly Simon<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.jamestaylor.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">James Taylor<\/a>. For real. As you can imagine, I had a few questions about that too! She obviously comes from an insanely creative family <em>{her brother <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bentaylormusic.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Ben<\/a> is a\u00a0musician too}<\/em> which I&#8217;m sure fueled this big beautiful project. Speaking of which, here&#8217;s\u00a0a peek behind the doors at <a href=\"http:\/\/consenses.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">Consenses<\/a>. I wish I&#8217;d been there for the opening, but my hope is to be there for the closing this coming August <em>{if you&#8217;re anywhere near Martha&#8217;s Vineyard you should go!}<\/em>:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/consenses.org\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-25932\" src=\"http:\/\/www.thejealouscurator.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/sallytaylor3.jpg\" alt=\"sallytaylor3\" width=\"584\" height=\"2523\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.thejealouscurator.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/sallytaylor3.jpg 584w, https:\/\/www.thejealouscurator.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/sallytaylor3-237x1024.jpg 237w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 584px) 100vw, 584px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><em>Ahhh,<\/em> so much goodness\u00a0in one spot! So basically the way it works &#8211; there are &#8220;chains&#8221; of creativity. So a musician writes\u00a0a piece of music, and an artist would\u00a0make a painting\u00a0based on that song. Next, a dancer would create choreography inspired by the visual art. A perfumer could\u00a0respond to that dance, developing a perfume that would tell the same story, but\u00a0through scent. This is not one of the official &#8220;chains&#8221; but it&#8217;s a selection of work from <em>Consenses<\/em> that I LOVE:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/consenses.org\/explore\/\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-25933\" src=\"http:\/\/www.thejealouscurator.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/sallytaylor4.jpg\" alt=\"sallytaylor4\" width=\"584\" height=\"5941\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Amazing. <em>{Did you see <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thejealouscurator.com\/blog\/2015\/08\/14\/if-it-scares-you-do-it\/\" target=\"_blank\">Lisa Golightly<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thejealouscurator.com\/blog\/2016\/03\/04\/im-a-bit-impatient\/\" target=\"_blank\">Susanna Bauer<\/a> in there?!}<\/em> Each chain was then housed in a customized set designed by, you guessed it, a set designer. Seriously, just the coolest project <em><strong>ever<\/strong><\/em>. So, what do you do after\u00a0you create such a cool project? A <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=vj4xiXn6lxM\" target=\"_blank\">TEDx Talk<\/a>, obviously:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=vj4xiXn6lxM\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-25934\" src=\"http:\/\/www.thejealouscurator.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/sallytaylor5.jpg\" alt=\"sallytaylor5\" width=\"584\" height=\"627\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.thejealouscurator.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/sallytaylor5.jpg 584w, https:\/\/www.thejealouscurator.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/sallytaylor5-279x300.jpg 279w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 584px) 100vw, 584px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>This is such a great talk&#8230; and she looks fabulous to boot! Apparently she only got two lunges into her backstage &#8220;get the nerves out workout&#8221;, but you&#8217;d never be able to tell.
