You can\u2019t move to Watts in 1963 and not speak about it. That determined a lot of where my work was going to go\u2026\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Well yes, I guess so! Those are the words of prolific Chicago based painter <a href=\"https:\/\/www.artsy.net\/artist\/kerry-james-marshall\" target=\"_blank\">Kerry James Marshall<\/a>. His work is so powerful, so beautiful, and there is <em>oh<\/em> so much of it!\u00a0I wanted to post\u00a0about fifty\u00a0paintings but I tried to show a bit of self-control. Luckily self-control isn&#8217;t needed if you&#8217;re in Chicago this summer, because there is a huge\u00a0retrospective of his work currently showing at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.artsy.net\/show\/mca-chicago-kerry-james-marshall-mastry\" target=\"_blank\">Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago until September 25, 2016<\/a>. Go!
