New Hampshire based painter\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/catherinegraffam.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Catherine Graffam<\/a>\u00a0is only 23 years old. Yeah, 23. She didn&#8217;t find art until she was a senior in high school, at a moment when she absolutely needed it. She began painting self portraits as soon as she discovered oil paint and hasn&#8217;t looked back. Whether she realized it at the time or not, she would use painting to document the huge life transition she was about to make. That final piece is titled &#8220;Panic&#8221;&#8230; doesn&#8217;t it look like a still from an old movie? Love it. Dark. Literally and figuratively.<\/p>\n<p>Throughout this episode I kept telling Catherine how brave I think she is. Exhibit A, &#8220;I Guess I&#8217;m Stuck With Me&#8221;&#8230; the painting she included in a show at college depicting the beginning of her transition:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/catherinegraffam.com\/\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-26534\" src=\"http:\/\/www.thejealouscurator.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/catherine_graffam4.jpg\" alt=\"catherine_graffam4\" width=\"584\" height=\"1787\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.thejealouscurator.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/catherine_graffam4.jpg 584w, https:\/\/www.thejealouscurator.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/catherine_graffam4-98x300.jpg 98w, https:\/\/www.thejealouscurator.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/catherine_graffam4-335x1024.jpg 335w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 584px) 100vw, 584px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Beautiful, vulnerable, and BRAVE\u00a0&#8211;\u00a0whether she&#8217;ll admit it or not. The other two pieces are the paintings\u00a0she mentioned that are also titled after song lyrics: &#8220;Head High, Tears Dry&#8221;, followed by &#8220;Anthem For A\u00a017 Year Old Me&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>Her self portraits are the base of her work, but recently Catherine&#8217;s been pushing herself to paint other people. Different faces, different angles, different stories.
