All of these\u00a0haunting hand-sewn sculptures are from a series, titled<em>\u00a0&#8220;Full Fathom Five&#8221;<\/em>, by\u00a0<\/span>New Jersey based artist <a href=\"http:\/\/www.tashalewis.info\/Portraits.html\" target=\"_blank\">Tasha Lewis<\/a>. Here are her words about this project:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;With these works, I imagine the decay or &#8220;sea change&#8221; described by Ariel in Shakespeare&#8217;s The Tempest:<\/p>\n<p><em>Full fathom five thy father lies;<\/em><br \/>\n<em>Of his bones are coral made;<\/em><br \/>\n<em>Those are pearls that were his eyes:<\/em><br \/>\n<em>Nothing of him that doth fade,<\/em><br \/>\n<em>But doth suffer a sea-change<\/em><br \/>\n<em>Into something rich and strange. <\/em><\/p>\n<p>In these portraits, time on the ocean floor has replaced their eyes with pearls and thread and they are everywhere encrusted with beads.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><em>Sigh.<\/em> Happy Monday.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Pearl encrusted, underwater beauties&#8230; so lovely\u00a0in a strange, magical, ghostly mermaid\u00a0kind of way.
