I\u2019m talking to Canadian drawist <em>{that\u2019s an artist who\u00a0draws}<\/em>,<a href=\"http:\/\/jaydart.ca\/\">\u00a0Jay Dart.<\/a>\u00a0You can listen right up there under that bearded log driver,\u00a0or you can\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/itunes.apple.com\/podcast\/jealous-curator-art-for-your\/id996338562\" target=\"_blank\">subscribe on iTunes<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019ve been a fan of Jay&#8217;s\u00a0work for years, but I\u2019m embarrassed to say it wasn\u2019t until his most recent show, \u00a0<em>\u201cGreetings From Yawnder\u201d,<\/em> that I finally began to understand his work, and\u00a0more importantly, the secret meaning behind it.\u00a0\u00a0The\u00a0<em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jaydart.ca\/index.php\/arts\/field-guide-to-yawnder-2016\/\">\u201cField Guide to Yawnder\u201d<\/a>,<\/em> a lovely little book that he created for the show, is to thank for this. It&#8217;s\u00a0insightful, insanely detailed, and a true field guide complete with maps, glossaries, definitions and introductions to characters that I want to be friends with&#8230; like Jiggs and his trusty dog Floyd, for example. Jiggs is Jay&#8217;s muse\/alter-ego\u00a0who travels Yawnder searching\u00a0for creative inspiration:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.thejealouscurator.com\/blog\/2017\/01\/27\/greetings-from-yawnder\/jaydart2-2\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-27836\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-27836\" src=\"http:\/\/www.thejealouscurator.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/jaydart2.jpg\" alt=\"jaydart2\" width=\"584\" height=\"1925\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.thejealouscurator.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/jaydart2.jpg 584w, https:\/\/www.thejealouscurator.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/jaydart2-91x300.jpg 91w, https:\/\/www.thejealouscurator.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/jaydart2-311x1024.jpg 311w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 584px) 100vw, 584px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I want to go to there. Geist trees growing ideas, <em>&#8220;Beyawnder&#8221;<\/em> where you&#8217;re free to be as creative as possible, and a land called <em>&#8220;The Unknowns&#8221;<\/em> &#8230; nobody knows what\u00a0happens there, obviously. This is the part in the podcast when I made Jay read his own poetry. What are you waiting for!?<\/p>\n<p>Next, this is the self-published book, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.jaydart.ca\/index.php\/book\/\"><em>&#8220;Wanderer of Yawnder&#8221;<\/em><\/a>, that Jay was telling me about. This wonderful, creatively-carefree place is a collaboration between Jay and his little boy.
