Turns out we also covered axe throwing, chips &#8216;n\u00a0dip, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt0090417\/\">&#8220;Degrassi Jr. High&#8221;<\/a> and oh so much more! These paintings are the result of years of experimentation, and a desire to explore\u00a0the idea of &#8220;loss of visual information&#8221;. Nailed it.<\/p>\n<p>Next, nudes from an\u00a0earlier series <em>{which ultimately evolved into the work above}<\/em>:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.thejealouscurator.com\/blog\/2017\/04\/14\/fire-failure-and-fatty-snacks\/briandonnelly3\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-28407\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-28407\" src=\"http:\/\/www.thejealouscurator.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/briandonnelly3.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"584\" height=\"3449\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.thejealouscurator.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/briandonnelly3.jpg 584w, https:\/\/www.thejealouscurator.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/briandonnelly3-51x300.jpg 51w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 584px) 100vw, 584px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Stunning work, but after awhile he didn&#8217;t feel like they were telling the story he wanted to tell. Time to push further, and take more risks&#8230; a constant theme for Brian.<\/p>\n<p>Ok, his hair! Well, not <em>his<\/em> hair, but the hair on some of his paintings&#8230; LOVE. Now, just to be totally clear, he also paints men in this series but because I&#8217;m slightly obsessed with portraits of women those are the pieces I&#8217;ve chosen to show. Also, pink top knots are my jam. The first piece below <em>{titled &#8220;Fountain of Youth&#8221;}<\/em> is from 2014, the year Brian got really into painting detailed tresses:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.thejealouscurator.com\/blog\/2017\/04\/14\/fire-failure-and-fatty-snacks\/briandonnelly4\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-28408\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-28408\" src=\"http:\/\/www.thejealouscurator.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/briandonnelly4.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"584\" height=\"4753\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.thejealouscurator.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/briandonnelly4.jpg 584w, https:\/\/www.thejealouscurator.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/briandonnelly4-37x300.jpg 37w, https:\/\/www.thejealouscurator.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/briandonnelly4-126x1024.jpg 126w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 584px) 100vw, 584px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Gorgeous! I threw in the bald guy so you could see what Brian was talking about re: the challenge of painting stubble.<\/p>\n<p>Alright, well that was hand sanitizer and turpentine&#8230; now it&#8217;s time to talk about burning stuff. Enter <em>&#8220;La Pucelle&#8221;<\/em>:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.thejealouscurator.com\/blog\/2017\/04\/14\/fire-failure-and-fatty-snacks\/briandonnelly5\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-28409\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-28409\" src=\"http:\/\/www.thejealouscurator.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/briandonnelly5.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"584\" height=\"2875\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.thejealouscurator.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/briandonnelly5.jpg 584w, https:\/\/www.thejealouscurator.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/briandonnelly5-61x300.jpg 61w, https:\/\/www.thejealouscurator.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/briandonnelly5-208x1024.jpg 208w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 584px) 100vw, 584px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The original painting burned completely, with only 19 prints left behind&#8230; each signed and numbered with the ashes of the original. Yeah. Add to that his story about Joan of Arc, aka &#8220;La Pucelle&#8221;, being burned alive at age 19 <em>{hence the 19 prints}<\/em> AND his ideas around making duplicates of work and voila, you end up with this show\/series titled, <em>&#8220;ORIGINAL COPY&#8221;<\/em>. It also happens to be a fun\/weird exercise in &#8220;being right&#8221; that Brian has made into a, um, hobby? This was a teen TV show in the late 80s\/early 90s set in Toronto. When Brian isn&#8217;t painting, burning things, or throwing axes he likes to ride his bike around the city proving that he knows exactly where certain scenes\u00a0were shot.
