Flat bonnet-ish hats, thin red lines <em>{which are paint, not thread btw}<\/em>, weird plastic-looking stuff wrapping her subjects &#8211; what&#8217;s it all about, because <em>I need to know!<\/em> Thankfully, she told me. We talked about being free to do whatever we like, late starts, and how I can get myself to Cornwall because, clearly, it&#8217;s a creative wonderland filled with amazing artists! Have a listen right under\u00a0<em>\u201cSelf-Doubt\u201d<\/em> &#8211; how perfect is that? &#8211; or\u00a0you can\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/itunes.apple.com\/podcast\/jealous-curator-art-for-your\/id996338562\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">subscribe on iTunes<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>First, some of the paintings I wrote about years ago when I first stumbled upon Pippa&#8217;s lovely\/weird work:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.thejealouscurator.com\/blog\/2018\/02\/23\/free-to-be\/pippayoung2\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-30878\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-30878\" src=\"http:\/\/www.thejealouscurator.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/pippayoung2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"584\" height=\"1960\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.thejealouscurator.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/pippayoung2.jpg 584w, https:\/\/www.thejealouscurator.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/pippayoung2-89x300.jpg 89w, https:\/\/www.thejealouscurator.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/pippayoung2-305x1024.jpg 305w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 584px) 100vw, 584px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>After doing this interview, I&#8217;m pretty sure that&#8217;s Pippa&#8217;s\u00a0son in, at least, the last painting above. These works also give you a little peek into the &#8220;hats&#8221; \/ &#8220;bonnets&#8221; I brought up right off the top. Next on my list of &#8220;what&#8217;s this about?&#8221;&#8230; tiny, delicate, beautifully painted red lines:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.thejealouscurator.com\/blog\/2018\/02\/23\/free-to-be\/pippayoung3\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-30879\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-30879\" src=\"http:\/\/www.thejealouscurator.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/pippayoung3.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"584\" height=\"3698\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><em>Gasp!<\/em> Pippa told me she doesn&#8217;t do those lines freehand, she &#8220;uses masking tape&#8221;. Oh okay, super easy then. WHAT?! So precisely perfect! She explained that these tethering red lines were inspired by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.ca\/Goldfinch-Novel-Pulitzer-Prize-Fiction\/dp\/0316055425\">&#8220;The Goldfinch&#8221;<\/a> &#8211; a book written by <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/The_Goldfinch_(painting)\">Donna Tartt<\/a>, inspired by a 1654 painting by Dutch artist <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/The_Goldfinch_(painting)\">Carel Fabritius<\/a> &#8230; now that&#8217;s a lot of inspiration. Pippa&#8217;s final painting above is, in fact, titled &#8220;Goldfinch I&#8221;. Her work is so gorgeous &#8230; the combination of the detailed plastic texture, with the flat hats and dresses on the girls? LOVE. It is so obvious <em>{now}<\/em> that Pippa was a graphic designer for such a long time &#8230; beautiful compositions, photographic qualities combined with flat graphic elements, and oh, that negative space. It&#8217;s all just too good.<\/p>\n<p>And, ah yes, her <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pippayounggallery.co.uk\/large-grid\">&#8220;interventions&#8221;<\/a>.
