She does all sorts of fabulous things &#8211; from mixed media and sculpture to installation work and, of course, this series of fantastic self-portraits.Here is part of Genevieve&#8217;s artist statement:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>&#8220;Genevieve Gaignard is a Los Angeles based artist whose work focuses on photographic self-portraiture,\u00a0sculpture, and installation to explore race, femininity, class,\u00a0and their various intersections. The daughter of a black father and white mother, Gaignard\u2019s youth was marked by a strong sense of invisibility. Was her family white enough to be white? Black enough to be black? Gaignard interrogates notions of \u201cpassing\u201d in an effort to address these questions.
