Yep, here we are at the beginning of Season No.5, and I could not be more thrilled to be kicking things off with this talented, insightful, soft-spoken artist. American artist <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ronaldjacksonartworks.com\/\">Ronald Jackson<\/a> is my very first guest back&#8230; after a much longer than planned break. I&#8217;m sure you&#8217;ll recognize his work as I&#8217;ve written about him before, but hearing his self-taught story <em>{he had a 20 year career in the military before becoming a painter!?}<\/em> makes me admire him more than I already did. Ready? Good.<\/p>\n<p>I thought I&#8217;d include his work from 2018 as well. This is what he was doing when I first reached out to him about being on the podcast:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thejealouscurator.com\/blog\/2020\/10\/23\/its-about-time\/ronaldjackson3\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-37026\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-37026\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thejealouscurator.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/ronaldjackson3.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"584\" height=\"4424\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Yep, those are all stop-you-in-your-tracks gorgeous, too. And yes, that&#8217;s NOLA based artist <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ashleylongshore.com\/\">Ashley Longshore<\/a> with two pieces of Ronald&#8217;s that she now owns. LOVE!<\/p>\n<p>Now, what did his work look like before he started adding masks to his subjects? I&#8217;m so glad you asked:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thejealouscurator.com\/blog\/2020\/10\/23\/its-about-time\/ronaldjackson4\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-37027\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-37027\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thejealouscurator.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/ronaldjackson4.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"584\" height=\"2689\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Again, so beautiful, but isn&#8217;t it so interesting to see the evolution? Speaking of which, here are the narrative paintings he was working on before that big show that required a lot of BIG work:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thejealouscurator.com\/blog\/2020\/10\/23\/its-about-time\/ronaldjackson5\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-37028\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-37028\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thejealouscurator.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/ronaldjackson5.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"584\" height=\"1665\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.thejealouscurator.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/ronaldjackson5.jpg 584w, https:\/\/www.thejealouscurator.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/ronaldjackson5-539x1536.jpg 539w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 584px) 100vw, 584px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>So different, yet you can absolutely see his hand in these paintings too. I wonder if he&#8217;ll head back in this direction at some point? We&#8217;ll have to keep an eye on that!<\/p>\n<p>And finally, this is his painting that was recently acquired by <a href=\"https:\/\/crystalbridges.org\/\">Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art<\/a> in Arkansas:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thejealouscurator.com\/blog\/2020\/10\/23\/its-about-time\/ronaldjackson6\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-37029\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-37029\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thejealouscurator.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/ronaldjackson6.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"584\" height=\"3333\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;In a Day, She Became the Master of Her House&#8221;<\/em>. Beautiful, on so many levels.<\/p>\n<p>But wait! Before you go &#8230; I found this photo on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/ronald_jackson_artworks\/\">Ronald&#8217;s Instagram feed<\/a> and just <em>had<\/em> to include it&#8230; he&#8217;s 1 of 11 children! Can you spot him?
