I can&#8217;t think of more perfect way to kick off a Monday morning! This is the work of Geneva based artist <a href=\"https:\/\/mariabernheim.com\/artists\/33-denis-savary\/overview\/\">Denis Savary<\/a>, and these images are from his current show, titled <em><a href=\"https:\/\/mariabernheim.com\/exhibitions\/58-ithaca-denis-savary\/works\/\">&#8220;Ithica&#8221;<\/a>,<\/em> at <a href=\"https:\/\/mariabernheim.com\">Galerie Maria Bernheim<\/a> in Zurich. Here is the gallery&#8217;s description:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>The name of the exhibition Ithaca refers to the American city home to the famous and liberal Cornell University, one of the main areas of development of the American film industry, which owes its name to the dreamed homeland of Odysseus.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Three disproportionately large dollhouses are displayed on\u00a0antique rugs, based on models of very common houses, a typical\u00a0Swiss Villa. They seem pushed to the limit of their stability,\u00a0revealing the weakness and the narrowness of their original\u00a0suburbs, like those cut out by Gordon Matta Clark. Their\u00a0intentional blandness lets through glimpses of strange interior\u00a0scenes, forcing the viewer to approach them cautiously. Their\u00a0dimensions, the meticulousness of their structures and the\u00a0effects of distortion open them to our interpretation;\u00a0simultaneously art historical and literary references come\u00a0through, a room is plastered with a wallpaper based on Marcel\u00a0Duchamp, who painted a reduced version of the &#8220;Nude descending\u00a0a staircase&#8221; for the dollhouse of one of his collectors. One\u00a0thinks of Robert Gober, whom\u00a0Denis Savary had already evoked a\u00a0few years ago, when he appropriated the gallery owner\u2019s doll\u00a0house, realizing a full exhibition as an extension of this work\u00a0in a space whose architecture echoed it (La Villa, villa\u00a0Bernasconi 2010), publishing as the only exhibition catalog\u00a0views of the interior of this dollhouse. These new sculptures\u00a0also recall early videos by Savary that seemed to be shot from\u00a0the window of his family home, located on the outskirts of a\u00a0small town with no specific\u00a0quality.<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"has_subtitle cms-clickable\" data-onclick-url=\"\/exhibitions\/58\/\"><em>&#8220;Ithica&#8221;<\/em> runs until February 27th, 2021.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Giant, &#8216;not-quite-right&#8217; dollhouses?
