It is a life-sized, Baroque-inspired gown&#8230; made of PAPER. I know. It&#8217;s too much to wrap your head around, which exactly why I knew I had to have it&#8217;s creator on the podcast. Haitian born, New York based artist <a href=\"http:\/\/www.fabiolajeanlouis.com\/\">Fabiola Jean-Louis<\/a> answered <em>alllllll<\/em> of my questions on today&#8217;s episode. So. Many. Questions. In between explaining the &#8216;how&#8217; and &#8216;why&#8217; behind her exquisite work, I also found out that she graduated from the same high school as Basquiat, was almost a doctor, and is a mother of five. Yep. Taught. Polaroids <em>{and Photoshop}<\/em> were how she got her instant gratification, but somewhere along the way her photographs got, well, much less instant! Here are just some of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.fabiolajeanlouis.com\/rewriting-history-color-prints\">pieces from &#8220;Rewriting History&#8221;<\/a>. Brace yourself, because the level of detail is insane:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thejealouscurator.com\/blog\/2021\/02\/19\/create-your-own-magic\/fabiola_jeanlouis3\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-37962\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-37962\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thejealouscurator.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/fabiola_jeanlouis3.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"584\" height=\"6269\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><em>Gasp!<\/em> Paper dresses, dollhouses, props and\u00a0 yes, those lovely paper shoes! The final composition above is <em>&#8220;Marie Antoinette is Dead&#8221;<\/em>, the piece Fabiola talked about regarding the first pair of paper shoes she ever made&#8230; see them poking out from under that gorgeous blue paper dress? So much work for the tiniest little glimpse <em>{that&#8217;s why I&#8217;ve included them on their own as well&#8230; they need their moment in the spotlight!}<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Alright, and here are the paper gowns from <em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.fabiolajeanlouis.com\/sculptures\">&#8220;Rewriting History&#8221;<\/a><\/em> when they&#8217;re displayed on their own:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thejealouscurator.com\/blog\/2021\/02\/19\/create-your-own-magic\/fabiola_jeanlouis4\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-37963\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-37963\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thejealouscurator.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/fabiola_jeanlouis4.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"584\" height=\"9535\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I mean, come on.
