She is one of my favourite painters, <em>and<\/em> one of the nicest people you&#8217;ll ever meet. I was at the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.torontooutdoorart.org\" target=\"_blank\">Toronto Outdoor Art Show<\/a> last summer, and was lucky enough to have a chance to chat with her, and see her lovely work in person. I&#8217;ve written about her vintage, photo-real oil paintings <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thejealouscurator.com\/blog\/2009\/12\/01\/im-jealous-of-holly-farrell-in-boston\/\" target=\"_self\">several times<\/a>, and I have absolutely no doubt that I will again. Her work is very quiet and sweet, however, the paintings that she&#8217;s jealous of are definitely<em> not<\/em>&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><em>\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>I\u00a0am\u00a0jealous of Michael Harrington <\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.thejealouscurator.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/holly_images.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-5077\" title=\"holly_images\" src=\"http:\/\/www.thejealouscurator.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/holly_images.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"450\" height=\"2608\" \/><\/a><br \/>\n<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>When I first saw <\/em><em>Michael Harrington<\/em><em>&#8216;s work I felt pretty glum\u00a0&#8211; definitely a\u00a0&#8216;why hadn&#8217;t I thought of that&#8217;\u00a0situation&#8230;\u00a0 I recognized the things he painted, remembered the people he portrayed and felt the colours he smeared across his canvases.\u00a0 He took scenes from my life (ok, not actually my\u00a0 life, but close to what I knew growing up) and put them eerily to\u00a0canvas.\u00a0 His work is creepy, dangerous and funny.\u00a0 His work is very Catholic &#8211;\u00a0might be he is \u00a0&#8211; there is a religiosity imbued in his scenes, they remind me of the stained glass\u00a0windows that would line the church aisles\u00a0of my childhood (before I quit Church).\u00a0 These\u00a0windows would\u00a0typically depict scenes of life, death and hope &#8211; mainly stories\u00a0from the\u00a0Bible &#8211; they were there to teach us all lessons.\u00a0 I can&#8217;t help but feel that lessons go unlearned in Harrington&#8217;s scenarios.\u00a0 It seems something bad is just waiting to happen.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Shudder. Yep, I don&#8217;t think those &#8216;cowboys&#8217; are up to <em>any<\/em> good at all.
