I could not be <em>more<\/em> jealous of Victoria Smith. Why you ask? Well, it all started when I found her photography series, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sfgirlbybay.com\/category\/sundayinthecity\/\" target=\"_blank\"><em>Sunday in the City<\/em><\/a>, featured on <a href=\"http:\/\/poppytalk.blogspot.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Poppytalk<\/a>. I just figured she was an amazing photographer, until of course I followed the images back to her blog. Ahh, her blog. <em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.sfgirlbybay.com\" target=\"_blank\">sfgirlbybay<\/a><\/em> quickly became one of my daily reads. With a background in interior design, she writes inspirational posts on design, style, art, food&#8230; everything you need for a fabulous life really. Victoria, and her lovely home, <em>{which I&#8217;m also jealous of by the way}<\/em> have been featured in several design magazines. But wait, there&#8217;s more! She is a huge part of the blogging community&#8230; speaking at <a href=\"http:\/\/http:\/\/www.altitudesummit.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">conferences<\/a>, creating projects like <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sfgirlbybay.com\/blog-it-forward\/\" target=\"_blank\"><em>blog it forward<\/em><\/a>, and hosting various guest bloggers every week <em>{including <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sfgirlbybay.com\/2010\/08\/03\/the-house-that-jealousy-built-the-jealous-curator-2\/\" target=\"_blank\">me<\/a>, which I could not be more thrilled about!}. <\/em>Anyway, it turns out I&#8217;m not the only one who&#8217;s jealous&#8230; Victoria is jealous of someone too:<em><br \/>\n<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>I&#8217;m jealous of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mairakalman.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Maira Kalman<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.thejealouscurator.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/vic_images.jpg\"><\/a><a href=\"http:\/\/www.thejealouscurator.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/vic_images1.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-5160\" title=\"vic_images1\" src=\"http:\/\/www.thejealouscurator.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/vic_images1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"450\" height=\"538\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.thejealouscurator.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/vic_images1.jpg 450w, https:\/\/www.thejealouscurator.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/vic_images1-250x300.jpg 250w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 450px) 100vw, 450px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><em>I can never get enough of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mairakalman.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Ms. Kalman<\/a>, an American illustrator, author, artist, and designer, originally born in Tel Aviv and transplanted to New York at the age of four. I get a sense that <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mairakalman.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Ms. Kalman<\/a> embraces her New York home whole-heartily&#8230;she walks the city streets and documents her travels consistently. She&#8217;s been known to say, &#8220;the best way to see the country, unless you are pressed for time, is to travel on foot.&#8221;\u00a0 It is that which I greedily envy. Her prolific illustrations poke mild fun at the absurd people she meets along her journeys, never mean-spirited, just with a keen eye and wry observation that I thoroughly enjoy.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.thejealouscurator.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/vic_images2.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-5161\" title=\"vic_images\" src=\"http:\/\/www.thejealouscurator.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/vic_images2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"450\" height=\"2244\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.thejealouscurator.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/vic_images2.jpg 450w, https:\/\/www.thejealouscurator.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/vic_images2-60x300.jpg 60w, https:\/\/www.thejealouscurator.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/vic_images2-205x1023.jpg 205w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 450px) 100vw, 450px\" \/><\/a><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>She&#8217;s illustrated numerous <\/em> <em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.mairakalman.com\/newyorkercover.html\" target=\"_blank\">New Yorker<\/a> covers, and is the author of like over a dozen children&#8217;s books, including <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mairakalman.com\/children\/stayuplate.html\" target=\"_blank\">Stay Up Late<\/a> (from the song by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.davidbyrne.com\/music\/cds\/th_brick\/index.php\" target=\"_blank\">David Byrne<\/a> &#8211; another person I&#8217;m very jealous of, but we&#8217;ll save that for another day), and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mairakalman.com\/children\/swami.html\" target=\"_blank\">Swami on Rye<\/a> (see, just there, you can tell she has a silly sense of humor). She&#8217;s also written and illustrated two of my very, very favorite &#8216;grown-up&#8217;s&#8217; books, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mairakalman.com\/elements.html\" target=\"_blank\">The Elements of Style<\/a> (and her little <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mairakalman.com\/Elements%20Movie.html\" target=\"_blank\">film<\/a> of the same name), and her very charming and moving book, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Principles-Uncertainty-Maira-Kalman\/dp\/0143116460\/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&amp;s=books&amp;qid=1280099389&amp;sr=8-1\" target=\"_blank\">The Principles of Uncertainty<\/a>, in which she asks the deep, existential questions such as &#8216;What is Happiness?&#8221;. But mostly, I&#8217;m just really jealous of her pictures. ; )<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Maira Kalman is currently showing her work at the <\/em> <em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.thecjm.org\/index.php?option=com_ccevents&amp;scope=exbt&amp;task=detail&amp;oid=47\" target=\"_blank\">Contemporary Jewish Museum<\/a> in San Francisco, should you be out for a stroll this way.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026<\/em><\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m putting on my shoes right now!
