i’m jealous of peter trevelyan

Pencil leads. Elaborate sculptures made from teeny tiny pencil leads fused together {somehow?!}. Seriously. This stunning work is by New Zealand artist Peter Trevelyan. He uses triangles as the basic unit for all of his work, and then builds from there. I’m not sure what to say about his work, except this: whoa… pencil lead?!!? Oh, and did I mention his stunning work with triangular mirrors?

Yep.

{The sculpture above is titled “MIMETIC BROTHERHOOD” and was in Wellington NZ until January of 2012. Where is it now? I don’t know! Do you?}

i’m jealous of david ryle

Ooh, steamy! This is the lovely work of London based photographer David Ryle, from a series quite appropriately titled Steam. I’m not sure if this was a personal project, or a commercial commission… either way, I’m feeling all warm & fuzzy!

{Art Director: Gem Fletcher, Stylist: Natasha Freeman, Hair and Makeup: Ellie Tobin}

i’m jealous of barry underwood

Maybe it’s because people are already starting to hang Christmas lights, but today I was in the mood for some gorgeous light installations… so I googled “light installations, art”, and look what I found!!! American artist Barry Underwood and his stunning, candy-hued lights floating magically in nature. Thanks google – I owe ya one.

i’m jealous of ryan and trevor oakes

I wonder if the mother of Ryan and Trevor Oakes imagined that this is what her twin boys would do when she told them to ‘go play’. Clearly she forgot to mention that  whole “don’t play with matches” thing… and I’m so glad, because look what they made! Wow.

i’m jealous of bannon fu

Ahhh… you know art is good when it makes you want to do laundry. Chinese born, California based artist Bannon Fu is fascinated with the wind, and the way it plays with fabric. Yep, and now I am inspired to hang every flowy, flowery cotton thing I can find, on the line. Hm, or maybe I’ll just continue sitting here enjoying these delicate watercolors instead. Yes. That’s a much better, and more realistic, way for me to spend my day.

i’m jealous of caitlind & wayne’s ‘cloud’

I am so jealous of everyone that got to stand under this beautiful lightbulb installation, and pull those strings! Wow. Ok, so I know this has been floating {pun totally intended} around the internet, but I think it’s absolutely beautiful and had to share it too! This piece is titled cloud, and is the collaborative work of Caitlind r.c. Brown and Wayne Garrett. 6000 lightbulbs turning on and off in the dark night of Calgary’s Nuit Blanche this past September. Sigh… lovely.

i’m jealous of gillian lambert

Detailed graphite on big white paper {22″x30″!}… whoa. These drawings are from a series titled self-deception, by Gillian Lambert. Oh those stripes, ew that spaghetti, ouch those strings, and gasp! – that unbelievably amazing aluminum foil! Stunning.

i’m jealous of fiona curran

I can tell you right now, I would not have the patience for the masking, and painting, and waiting, and layering that goes into creating these paintings. UK based artist Fiona Curran, clearly does. So. Many. Perfect. Angles!!!

ps. her installation work is amazing too… have a look!

i’m jealous of jennifer davis’ targets

Ok, just when I thought it wasn’t possible to be jealous of Minneapolis based artist Jennifer Davis AGAIN, I am. Shooting targets. Yes. Bizarre, brightly-hued, incredibly detailed creatures living happily on old shooting targets. Hm, living happily for now that is… let’s hope no one actually uses these for target practice!

{If you want one of these – I do! – you can place a custom order at Jennifer’s Etsy shop! psst – they’re only $150 for an original! Seriously!!!}

i’m jealous of ann agee

This is the stunning ceramic work of Brooklyn based artist Ann Agee. All of these pieces are from a series titled “Rules of the Pattern”… yep, I would definitely follow these rules, if I wound up doing work like this!
