“Red Riding Hood Collages” by Rubén B… now this is my kind o’ fairytale. Sigh.

Indian Style is an oh so lovely series of watercolor drawings by Texas based artist/illustrator Kelly Rae Burns. Ok, forget the trendy yoga studios… I’m goin’ to the forest! Hey, if all that fresh air and communing with nature can get an owl into lotus position, surely it’ll help me too.
Ok, now, I don’t want you to get the wrong idea… Los Angeles based artist Deedee Cheriel does in fact paint all sorts of other amazing things… I just happen to really, really, really love her roaring bears {although, for some reason, I prefer to think that they’re belting out classic show tunes}.
Whoa. So beautiful… oh sure, freezing cold and totally isolated, but beautiful none-the-less! For all of my Midwest and East Coast friends, who are currently digging themselves out of the latest winter storm, I dedicate this post to you ~ Snow Blind, a photographic series by Berlin based artist Matthias Heiderich. Keep warm everyone! xx {It would be really mean to mention that my tulips are coming up already, right? Right. Ok, never mind.}

Sí, sí, sí indeed! Ok, I have to admit that I don’t understand anything {except sí} on the mainly Spanish blog of Argentinian artist Andrea Cavagnaro. I do, however, understand that her work is amazing! I always get excited by the stacks of colored felt at the art supply store, but I’ve never really known what to do with it. Do I wish that I’d done something as fantastic as this?… sí.

{via Pattern Pulp … great Q&A with Andrea on there too!}
Now, just to be clear, I’m not a pyromaniac, nor would I normally ever suggest setting someone’s art on fire, but… Loco-Foco-Motto is the title of a series of breathtaking chandeliers made from thousands of wooden matchsticks {150,000 matchsticks per chandelier to be exact}, and artist Hema Upadhyay has never set one ablaze. I don’t know if I could control myself if I was her? Ok, I can understand that after all of the intense work, that clearly goes into each piece, she wouldn’t want to watch it all go up in a matter of seconds… but it would certainly be something to see! {Really, I’m not a pyromanic… right!?}
How cool would I be if I could actually pull off wearing that gorgeous spiky necklace… or that fantastically huge ring? Well hey, if a dog can look fabulous in this stuff, I’m certainly going to give it a try! Stunningly unique felted, and crocheted, wearable art by Portuguese artist Maria João Ribeiro. L.O.V.E.
{Speaking of fab dogs, pop over to sfgirlbybay today – which by the way is where I found Maria’s work – for my new series that just started today! It’s called ‘curated collections’, and the first collection up… you guessed it … pet portraits!}
So, I thought it might be time to finally introduce myself… sort of! I’ve been The Jealous Curator for two years, and I’ve always tried to stay fairly anonymous. Why you ask? Well, I’m an artist too {quite a shy artist!}, and I’ve never wanted my work to be part of this blog – and it’s going to stay that way. But, after speaking at Alt Summit ten days ago it’s been pretty hard to keep all of my secrets secret… especially when the very persuasive Erin Loechner, of Design for Mankind, was one of my roommates! Erin has officially outed me on her blog today, so if you’re interested in seeing my work, you can pop over there for a peek. Ok, that’s all… back to being jealous of other people! ; )
Who knew that a bunch of maps, and a box full of pins could be this fantastic? Well, American artist Shannon Rankin I suppose. I am in complete awe of her creativity and beautiful attention to detail … and I bet she never, ever gets lost.

In December, I wrote the first post in this series to keep you in the loop re: one of the coolest things I’ve ever been asked to do! Now it’s just a little more than a month to go until TRY A LITTLE TENDERNESS AS PAINFUL AS IT SEEMS, a solo show by Canadian artist Ben Skinner, opens in Washington DC! The invites are being printed today, I’m knee-deep into writing the curatorial statement, and Ben is up to his elbows in glitter, vinyl lettering, and pink wood stain. Yep. It’s going to be amazing! Above are just a few of the pieces that will be part of the final show. You better get there quick though… I might end up buying everything!
