i’m jealous of jenny meilihove

I love these portraits by Russian artist Jenny Meilihove for three reasons. The bold colour choices, the strange but cozy knitted head gear, and the giant glasses… especially the blue tinted ones. I would love to see what Jenny would come up with if she did a portrait of me! I’ve got the glasses, I just need a skilled knitter to make something for my head. Any volunteers?
i’m jealous of tom edwards

These are ‘Bonfires‘ by Tom Edwards. I love these little volcano-esque, forest fire-ish, dessert mold looking things! Hm, I’m suddenly in the mood for a Baked Alaska… hold the volcanic ash.
i’m jealous of seonna hong

Where to begin? Seonna Hong has so many beautifully unique pieces on her site, but these 3 were my favourite. As soon as I saw the girl floating in a sea of wood grain I knew it would be a tough one to top…. although those gramophone loving bears are pretty amazing too.
ps. Thanks to Tricia for sending me Seonna’s link. You sure know what makes me jealous!
i’m jealous of jasna sokolovic

I’m sorry, I’m not available to take your call at the moment. I’m far too jealous to pick up the phone. If you’d like to leave a message for Jasna Sokolovic… well, you can’t, so check out her site or her blog instead. Thanks for calling.
Beep.
i’m jealous of valerie thai

Now, if you know me at all, you would know that I have a small obsession with slightly disturbing storybook images, I’m a sucker for wood grain and, of course, who doesn’t love a good ol’ caramel apple from time to time?! Look… even baby birds love them!
Valerie Thai is a designer and illustrator who has a company called cabin+cub. You can find all of her art direction work there, but for more of these very cool vintage collages check out her etsy shop by the same name.
je suis jaloux de julia

In these tough financial times perhaps you should turn to french artist/designer ‘Julia‘ for all of your cardboard furniture needs. Economical, earth-friendly, and pretty darn cool lookin’. From what little french I speak (un petit peu) I believe Julia lives in Marseille. Her site is in french so if you’re looking for the above work, and there’s plenty more where this came from, click on mobilier > images and you’ll find it all.
i’m jealous of chen ying tzu

Ah, a faceless summer picnic. So effortless, so lovely.
I love art that looks like a loose, not over-thought, page from a sketchbook and that is exactly what this collage by Chen Ying Tzu feels like to me… and if you really want to make me jealous, just throw in a white picket fence and a pair of red flip-flops! Done.
i’m jealous of 100artworks.com

In honor of the 100th post on The Jealous Curator (wow, time flies when you’re super jealous), I’m writing about a very cool website from the UK, with a very cool collection of graffiti, urban and street art… 100artworks.com. Get it? Get it? 100 posts, 100 artworks? Ok, you get it. I thought the first image was particularly appropriate for celebrating something making it to 100.
The artists shown above are {1} GVD {2} Eelus {3} Cartrain
i’m jealous of alison lilly

Let me begin by apologizing for the quality of these photos. I took them with a small camera, a spotlight shining on them, elbow to elbow with a huge crowd of people at ‘THE wee SHOW’ last Saturday night… so they’re not doing these two pieces from Alison Lilly’s screen printed Prison series justice, but I still wanted to show them! These are found images from S&M magazines from the 1950’s… those poor women in the 50’s never caught a break did they? I like Alison’s explanation of the work so here it is:
‘The images and text are screen printed onto fabric, inset into a wooden box and are framed behind glass. The Faces seem to hide in reclusion and exile, behind masks, consigned to their exploits, while encouraging the viewer to delight in the paradox the written discourse provides.’
There you have it.
i’m jealous of esen demirci

Love love love love love. I discovered Esen Demirci’s work while going through the artists in the ‘Could Be Me‘ show that I mentioned in my last post. {On a side note, so much good stuff in that show!} Ok, anyway, I found Esen’s piece, shown above, and then went onto her blog which was filled with even more amazing stuff. There is a lot of digital collage out there, and lots of it looks exactly the same, but there is something very special & unique about these pieces. Love love love.
