i’m jealous of tracciamenti… again

What’s not to love? A dress, typography, multi-coloured rainbow-ish stripes… and a funnel.
I wrote about Tracciamenti a few months ago and just got an email from her this morning with a link to her new website. Lots of great work including this piece from a very cool show called “Could Be Me”.
i’m jealous of derek von essen

I’m jealous of the way these look, and I’m inspired by the idea.
These are cigarette packages filled with concrete. If smokers don’t realize what they’re putting into their lungs, Derek von Essen is trying to make it very clear. I saw 3 of his Be A Quitter pieces at ‘THE wee SHOW’ on the weekend. Derek, a reformed smoker himself, was offering smoker’s $10 off the price if they turned over any cigarettes they had on them… no takers.
i’m jealous of ana ventura

No use crying over spilled paint… just make a cool art piece out of it! Ana Ventura makes beautiful work out of what others probably consider neighbourhood eyesores. You can officially call yourself a ‘mixed media artist’ when you’re working with cracks in concrete walls, paint spills on the sides of buildings and even shadows cast by old trees.
Ana has all kinds of different and amazing stuff on her site, but if you want to see more work like the two pieces posted here, click here. That project is called (iN)VISIBLE.
i’m jealous of nicholas tassone

Now this is some fancy photoshopping on a few found photos. {Say that 10 times really fast!} These photos have been beautifully manipulated by Nicholas Tassone. I like these two pieces together… I’m assuming that the guy diving into the tub is going to somehow magically end up in that crazy pool. Hey lady, look up, you’ve got company!
i’m jealous of sarajo frieden

You know that you’re a creative person if this is what’s coming out of your drawers.
This piece, titled pocketpark dresser, by Sarajo Frieden is embroidery on paper. So cool. Plus, it’s kinda weird, and the colours are fantastic. Love it.
i’m jealous of mahmood popal

I actually feel a bit depressed after finding these pieces by Mahmood Popal. So simple, not over-worked, just really really good. Inspired? Yes. Jealous? Oh yes.
{If the links on his site aren’t working properly, you can see more of his collages on ArtInteriors.ca.}
i’m jealous of abbey hendrickson

Pink pen, some whiteout and a big moustache. That’s certainly enough to make me jealous. Nicely done Abbey Hendrickson.
If you’d like to know a bit more about Abbey, she has a great blog called ‘Aesthetic Outburst‘, and a store on etsy called ‘how now design‘.
i’m jealous of bill zindel

I do love a good collage and Bill Zindel definitely delivers. It was the deer antlers that caught my attention, but upon closer inspection my favourite element quickly became the big hunk of meat… in the bottom right, not the top right.
the jealous curator presents…

It just seemed logical to start a ‘shows’ section… being The Jealous Curator and all.
Now, just to be clear, these ’shows’ aren’t real. They are collections of work that I would love to hang if I had my very own white walls, and the clout to pull together amazing artwork from all over the world. I’m jealous of those who can. Until I am one of them, I’ll just have to curate right here, thank you very much. So grab a glass of wine, wear black from head to toe, and avoid awkward small talk by enjoying the work from the comfort of your own home.
ps. I plan to post a new show about every 2 weeks or so. There are already two ready for viewing: Peep Show and Sew Jealous… see, just over there on your right.
i’m jealous of jeremy taylor & allyson mellberg

I’m not only jealous of the artwork by Jeremy Taylor and Allyson Mellberg, a married art team from Charlottesville,VA, but I’m also very inspired by their approach. The top piece, Gold Fronts by Jeremy, and the bottom piece, Feral Fridgy by Allyson are both from a show called Handplant. The show is about ‘the dysfunctional relationship humans have with nature’. The images definitely show this, but they go one step further by using ‘homemade walnut ink washes mixed with squid and spinach inks to create beautiful natural color tones that also act as viable alternatives to toxic paints and chemicals.’ See what I mean? How inspiring is that?
{An amazing painter named Mark Bradley-Shoup, who I wrote about a few months ago, recommended that I check out Jeremy and Allyson’s work… Thank you Mark!}
