i’m jealous of jason decaires taylor
Can you imagine coming across either of these underwater installations while out for a swim?! I know. Insanely beautiful, kinda spooky, and environmentally friendly all in one shot. I am totally mesmerized by these life-size concrete sculptures by Cancun based artist Jason deCaires Taylor… oh sure, they may have started out as statues, but given a little time, and some amazing sea creatures, they have literally come to life. Stunning.
{Thanks to Briony Evans, Creative Director at the Honfleur Gallery, for sending this work my way.}

All I can really say is WOW, it kind of reminds me of the Terracotta Warriors but with a whole new surreal twist to it.
I love the angle of the third shot down, it almost looks like it was taken in regular daylight until you see the ripples of the water above.
Awesome share
Stuart
This is so cool
yes! so cool / surreal. wouldn’t it be amazing to see these in person… although i have to admit, i think i’d be a little scared.
Awesome! Thanks for sharing this.

He’s one of the very first artists I ever wrote about. His sculptures are absolutely stunning. It’s nice to see some of his newer work.
Holy wowness! I agree w/Stuart.
Coming across that would give me nightmares for life! the idea (and the execution!) are absolutely amazing, but they are still super creepy.
i know… if you didn’t know they were there when you set out on your snorkeling trip, they would be absolutely terrifying! so ghostly, but insanely beautiful none the less.
My husband and I were on a snorkeling trip in Grenada and we came across them. It was a bit scary, but fascinating at the same time.
wow – so cool that you got to see them up close and personal! thanks kirsty xo
