the organic artist (a book giveaway)

And the winner is…. HOPE THIER! Congratulations, Hope! I’ll be in touch to get your mailing address. Thanks to everyone that entered… it looks like a fabulous book. Here’s to making our own paint in 2015! ; )

Ah, so inspiring! Doesn’t this make you want to live off the land… or at least try making your own art supplies!? Vermont based author, artist, educatorย Nick Neddo has written this book, “The Organic Artist” to teach all of us how to do exactly that. Paints, paper, paint brushes, oh, and charcoal pencils made with branches… I want to make all of it! This book hits shelves in January, but since I have no self control, I’m going to do a giveaway today {Nick will ship a copy to the winner as soon as it’s available}. So, leave a comment below and I’ll draw one winner on Monday December 15 at noon PST.

{If you can’t wait, you can also preorder the book at QBookshop, Amazon, or Barnes & Noble}

  42. Anna Hueneke /// 12.12.2014 /// 8:55am

    Art is about breathing in oneโ€™s own nature. Sometimes this means creating close to nature. Immersing oneself in the textures and colours. This book presents a unique challenge. To make nature subject matter and material. As an artist who wants to be as close to the raw materials as possible this book is a unique and profound opportunity.

    I live in a small clay house and learn to harmony with the Gaia in many ways. Planting and art are languages that I love to communicate with her and another people. I think, this book can help me to speak in art language closer to the real meaning. Thank you for good occasion to share a motivation in natural art.

    I have been dreaming about making natural paints (and starting to use natural dyes!) for a while now. A couple of month’s ago I went fossil hunting with my uncle and instead of being excited for the fossils, I was considering the wonderful pigments I could get by grinding up the embedded shells – not to mention the gorgeous Grey’s and Brown’s of the accompanying sediment layers! Needless to say that after seeing your post, I have been dreaming about this book!
