……..
Ah, so inspiring! Doesn’t this make you want to live off the land… or at least try making your own art supplies!? Vermont based author, artist, educator Nick Neddo has written this book, “The Organic Artist” to teach all of us how to do exactly that. Paints, paper, paint brushes, oh, and charcoal pencils made with branches… I want to make all of it! This book hits shelves in January, but since I have no self control, I’m going to do a giveaway today {Nick will ship a copy to the winner as soon as it’s available}. So, leave a comment below and I’ll draw one winner on Monday December 15 at noon PST.
{If you can’t wait, you can also preorder the book at QBookshop, Amazon, or Barnes & Noble}

What an eyeopener I would never have thought of making my own supplies so this is an amazing discovery. Would love to give it ago. Paints are so expensive and full of chemicals and it would be nice to have the opportunity to not add to environmental damage!
Art is about breathing in one’s own nature. Sometimes this means creating close to nature. Immersing oneself in the textures and colours. This book presents a unique challenge. To make nature subject matter and material. As an artist who wants to be as close to the raw materials as possible this book is a unique and profound opportunity.
I’m so excited by this book. Thank you for featuring it. This looks like something you keep for the rest of your life.
So inspiring!
This book looks amazing!!

I have been dreaming about making natural paints (and starting to use natural dyes!) for a while now. A couple of month’s ago I went fossil hunting with my uncle and instead of being excited for the fossils, I was considering the wonderful pigments I could get by grinding up the embedded shells – not to mention the gorgeous Grey’s and Brown’s of the accompanying sediment layers! Needless to say that after seeing your post, I have been dreaming about this book!
