i’m still jealous of adam wallacavage

It’s been over a year since I wrote about Adam Wallacavage, and I’m still oh so jealous. Some of his chandeliers are going to be included in a show that opens on June 26th in Italy, so I figured that was enough of an excuse to write about him again. He has so much stunning work to choose from, but after hours of debate, I decided on these as my top picks… and of course, I had to include the shot of Adam deep sea diving in his living room. Honestly, if I had all of these amazingly strange and beautiful octopus chandeliers in my house, I’d buy a wetsuit and harpoon too… let’s face it, it’s a good look.

i’m jealous of johan theeuwes

johan_theeuwes

Cubism? Well, kinda. These paintings by Antwerp based artist/illustrator Johan Theeuwes are very appropriately titled Block Stories. They are 40 x 40 cm blocks that are painted on every side, so at any particular moment you can change the order, side, positioning etc to create a whole new piece of art… and an entirely new narrative for that matter. I know I’ve said this before but, damn, I wish I thought of this.

i’m jealous of hattie and alex

Oh sure, I’ve made a paper plane before. Ok, so maybe it wasn’t quite as detailed as that little yellow one… or as complex as those trees, waterfall, sailboats, houses and stunning, snow-capped mountain range complete with tiny red flags! The Fedrigoni Mountains, is a paper installation by Hattie Newman produced for Fedrigoni {an Italian paper company} in collaboration with Alex Ostrowski. Here’s Hattie’s description:

‘[This project was] inspired by the snow-capped Dolomites surrounding Fedrigoni’s hometown of Verona. Twelve intrepid illustrators were invited to visualize an imaginary exploration of the paper slopes, resulting in an exhibition of their discoveries.’

i’m jealous of nava lubelski

navalubelski2

When April rolls around you really only have two clear choices… you can file your taxes like a responsible member of society, or you can make stunning, organic, amoeba-like paper sculptures like artist Nava Lubelski. Yes, that’s right folks, these pieces, from her Tax Files series, are made up entirely of deposit slips, pay stubs, receipts and tax forms. Hey IRS, if you’re listening, I absolutely think you should commission Nava to create one of these sculptures for every single office you have!

i’m jealous of shauna richardson

Oh sure, just some beautifully hand-crafted crocheted animal trophies {aka Crochetdermy™}, a few of which are even kind of cute… until British artist Shauna Richardson strategically places them somewhere isolated and poorly lit! I think it’s safe to say that the ‘beautifully hand-crafted’ bear in the underground parking lot would require me to go home for a change of underpants. Oh come on, don’t judge me… you know you’d be in the same situation.

{Thanks to Liesl for bringing Shauna’s work to my attention!}

i’m jealous of rachel denny… again

racheldenny_again1

Rachel Denny was the second artist that I ever wrote about… what can I say, over one year later and I’m still a sucker for cable knit and deer heads. Anyway, she has a bunch of new work {foxes, and ducks, and rams oh my!} in her latest series titled Out of the Woods that she’s been constructing in her beautiful backyard studio in Portland… uh, did you catch how many things there are to be jealous of in that last sentence alone? Sigh.

i’m jealous of julie moon

Julie Moon is a Toronto born artist, currently working on her MFA at The New York State College of Ceramics at Alfred University. I would love to do my MFA {eventually}, so that alone makes me jealous of her… the army of very cool lamps and that flowery goose are really just the icing on the cake.

i’m jealous of sarah williams

If I saw anyone, and I mean anyone, at the airport with this luggage, I cannot even begin to tell you how jealous I’d be! These hand-crafted suitcases truly bring new meaning to the phrase ‘traveling in style’. They are from a series called Crafted Fashion by Sarah Williams. They are her contribution to the MA Show at the London College of Fashion. Here’s the thinking behind the project:

‘Historically exceptional craftsmanship was the norm now it is the exception. The collection is designed to challenge this statement by utilizing regional historical craftsmanship and metamorphosising the traditional in order to produce a collection of original fashion artefacts.’

Well, I think it does exactly that… not to mention making you the coolest, most stylish person at the departure gate!

{I found Sarah’s work on the always eclectic blog, Junkculture.}

Awwww! Aren’t they sweet? Don’t you want to give them a good home? These poor little ceramic orphans were left all alone, badly painted and nameless, at charity shops all over South East England. Luckily, London based artist Emma Harding showed up on a rescue mission! She dusted them off, painted them in fabulously vibrant colours, and then lovingly named each one. Now they are shiny, beautiful and ready to find new homes. Yes, that’s right, all of these little thrift store orphans are up for adoption. You can take one home today if you like… but I call dibs on Pat & Una Thorpe!

{Thanks to the always inspiring and lovely frankie magazine for this find.}

i’m jealous of archie scott gobber

archie_scott_gobber1

Oh, how I love clever {and beautifully executed} typographic art. Sculpture, painting, mixed media, whatever… I love it all. Therefore, I have no choice but to love American artist Archie Scott Gobber, because clearly he does it all. Hm, I guess I’ll have to divide my heart between Archie and Wayne White, although I may have to fight Marty Walker for both of them. His gallery reps these two typographic geniuses so, ultimately, I’m jealous of him too. Phew, that’s a lot of guys to be jealous of in one day. I’m spent.
