i’m jealous of michael johansson

The anal type-A organizer in me is having small heart palpitations at the moment. Tightly stacked installations organized by theme, dimension and colour… are you kidding me? It’s perfection. And there’s more where this came from. IKEA? No, although you’ve got the right country. Swedish artist Michael Johansson has meticulously and compactly organized all sorts of things like suitcases, gardening tools, books, computer equipment, camping gear etc etc… I think I might be in love.
i’m jealous of amanda smith

Two words: Jack. Pot.
A whole bunch of other words: Gorgeous colour, rich textures, unique style, bizarre narratives, beautiful illustration.
I really need to get paid for this somehow because I really want to buy pretty much everything that I show. These glazed ceramics, by American artist Amanda Smith, are definitely on my wish list… hint, hint.
i’m jealous of xavier veilhan

This is Sophie. She was created by Xavier Veilhan and, in all of her yellow glory, she spans two floors at Le Germain in Paris. Her head is breaking through into the VIP lounge, and her bottom is in the restaurant… boy, have I been there.
{Permission from the artist is required to show these images. I emailed and asked for permission. I waited patiently. I didn’t hear back. I posted them. Don’t be mad Xavier, Sophie is just too good… I had to show her.}
i’m jealous of wilfrid wood

He likes pets, hot chocolate muffins, and techno music.
I like his art.
Super sculpy, a hot oven, and London native Wilfrid Wood are responsible for these fantastic sculptural portraits. First he draws, then sculpts & bakes, and finally sands & paints these unique characters. I want one… and I also want one of those hot chocolate muffins please.
i’m jealous of stephanie cormier

I honestly have no idea what it is I’m looking at here, but I know that I like it… especially that red and yellow mushroom type thing attached to an old beige phone cord. Oh, and I love the colour palette. Stephanie Cormier, if you’re out there, would you care to shed a little light on these weird and wonderful, um… sculptures?… digital prints?… whatever they are!
i’m jealous of kristi malakoff

This is insane… and photos don’t do it justice. I saw this life size ‘May Pole’ installation by Canadian artist Kristi Malakoff last spring up close and personal. Isn’t it beautiful? And wait, it gets better… the whole thing is made out of, brace yourself, cut paper. Yes. Everything. The curly hair, the lace, the ribbon, the birds. Everything.
{When you visit her site, make sure to check out the ‘Flower Installations’ section – all of which are made from thousands of flowers that she has photographed, then printed and cut out of paper, and last but not least, arranged into words, scenes etc. Amazing!}
i’m jealous of kimberley laurenti

Ladies and gentlemen… My Mooks! Custom ordered. Animal masks chosen by me. Ready to be displayed in my home. So cool!
I wrote about Kimberley Laurenti’s masked Mooks about a month ago, and then I couldn’t stop thinking about them. So I bought them. They were my first official ‘Jealous Curator’ purchase. Hm, I better be careful… this could get quite expensive if I start buying everything that I write about. Note to self: never ever write about sculptures made of diamonds & gold.
i’m jealous of the maker of ‘mooks’

Weird, hilarious and kinda cute… the triple threat that gets me every time.
These strange little creatures are called ‘mooks’. I found one of them on Pikaland, and then followed the trail back to an etsy shop called My Grey Sky, run by an artist who uses the name I love grey skies. Well you know what Ms. Grey Skies, I love your mooks! Especially the ones wearing knitted hats. I’ve had a thing for knitted head gear lately… must be the cool September weather. Brr.
i’m jealous of josh mckible’s nanibirds

What?!
Josh McKible came up with this very cool project while living in Japan. ‘Nani’ means ‘what’ in Japanese and apparently he asked that a lot while living there, so much so that he did 100 paintings of little birds asking that question. So, here’s where the nanibirds come in… he created this paper bird template and put it out there to see how other artists would answer ‘what?’, in birdese of course. I’ve posted three of them here but there are lots more at nanibird.com
The artists shown above are {1} Josh McKible {2} Anna Antoniades {3} Azbeen
i’m jealous of jasna sokolovic

I’m sorry, I’m not available to take your call at the moment. I’m far too jealous to pick up the phone. If you’d like to leave a message for Jasna Sokolovic… well, you can’t, so check out her site or her blog instead. Thanks for calling.
