i’m jealous of rachel whiteread
Whoa. I think I’m in love. Here are THREE very good reasons for my art crush on British artist Rachel Whiteread:
ONE:

TWO:

THREE:

Oh my. As you can see, I love so much of Rachel’s work… and how can you blame me? Sculptures on shelves, drawings, and pink resin doors. It’s all so beautiful. Sigh.
{ps. My latest ART GOES HERE post is up on sfgirlbybay today!}
i’m jealous of philip barlow

Ahhh, summer. You can almost feel the warmth of the sun, and smell the salty sea air, can’t you? These paintings {yes, paintings?!} are by South African artist Philip Barlow. Realistic, but not… like an old, out of focus photograph. So lovely. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’m off to the beach! Ok, not really… but wouldn’t that be a nice way to spend the day? Yes it would!
gather round y’all…

It’s finally here… an entire weekend filled with art, design, workshops {i’m teaching one on saturday morning}, & gourmet popsicles! That’s right, GATHER POP UP is opening on Friday night in Vancouver’s Gastown. If you live in Vancouver, you have to come!
…and, if you live in Vancouver, not only do you get to hang out all weekend, you could also WIN A FABULOUS GATHER GOODY BAG! Yep, it’s true. Everything shown below is included, and all you have to do is comment. I’m drawing one winner {a Vancouver based winner… sorry rest of the world!} on Thursday at noon (PST). See you at Gather, Vancouver peeps!

{Thanks so much to everyone who popped something into this lovely gift bag: 1 My Little Lights // 2 Henderson Dry Goods // 3 Nostalgic Links // 4 Wild Rabbit // 5 Meeralee Illustrations // 6 Jola V Designs // 7 Little MoSo // 8 LoveJules // 9 Bouchée Cheesecakes // 10 THIS IS EAST VAN // 11 visamexicana }
i’m jealous of ryan pickart

Florals, golden hues, and rectangular hair… ahh, the lovely ladies of Indiana based artist Ryan Pickart. Very Klimt-ish, no?

oh, hello

So, I haven’t always been the most ‘open’ blogger {please note the above photo!}. I don’t tend to talk about myself very often, which is just fine by me, however, a few of my readers have said they want to know a bit more.
For those of you who don’t… skip this next part, and I’ll see you back here on Monday for a regular post, but for those of you who do… I’ve got a few links for ya. The past two weeks were a little crazy in the interview department, and I just want to say thanks to these folks for wanting to talk to me:

Some are silly, some are serious, but all were really fun to do! Thanks so much to Hot Art Wet City for the video interview, and to SCOUT Magazine, Gather, and SAY Daily for the written “chats” xo
i’m jealous of rotganzen

WOW! … and also ew!!! If you enjoy a good old fashioned lollipop from time to time, you might not after this! This series, titled GANGREDINE CONSUMPTUS, was created by ‘ROTGANZEN’ ~ an artist collective based in Rotterdam and Schiedam {the initiators, and main artists, are Robin Stam, Mark van Wijk and Joeri Horstink}.
Now, I don’t want to leave you feeling grossed out by these toxic, yet absolutely beautiful, ‘lollies’ {don’t worry, they’re made out of resin, and can’t actually be eaten – they’re just making a point!}… so instead, I’ll sign off with this other body of work by ROTGANZEN:

Ah yes, amazingly melty disco balls… GORGEOUS, and not at all poisonous.
i’m jealous of rachel castle… x 3
First of all, I’m jealous of Australian artist Rachel Castle because of these:

Ah, gorgeous textile work… with what I’m pretty sure is the perfect amount of neon felt. And then, of course, I had to show these:

Acrylic paintings on linen. Hello lovely organic shapes & stunning color choices… but boy oh boy, whatever you do, do not get me started on this stuff:

Gah! Art, and bedding, and dresses, oh my! Where does this girl’s talent end?! No, seriously… where? ♥
{ps. I love the scale of the felt piece hanging above. Gorgeous. I need this in my house. Immediately.}
i’m jealous of… the queen!

Oh my word… the designer in me is having heart palpitations, and I cannot help but say, damn, I wish I thought of this! Who did you ask… the folks at Leo Burnett London, and their friends at Pantone. This genius little swatch book was created for Queen Elizabeth’s Diamond Jubilee, and showcases the lovely hues she’s worn over her 60 years in reign. Yep, I love it all, from PANTONE 16-2124 Pink Carnation, to PANTONE 13-4411 Crystal Blue. Gah! It’s so good!

i’m jealous of fred one litch

I have a thing for found frames, color swatches and bold type… and now have a thing for California based artist Fred One Litch. Sigh… yep, I do love a giant A from time to time.
i’m jealous of matthew divito

Whoa, dude… so trippy. Boston based motion graphics artists Matthew DiVito just, like, totally blew my mind on a Monday morning.
