i’m still jealous of adam wallacavage

It’s been over a year since I wrote about Adam Wallacavage, and I’m still oh so jealous. Some of his chandeliers are going to be included in a show that opens on June 26th in Italy, so I figured that was enough of an excuse to write about him again. He has so much stunning work to choose from, but after hours of debate, I decided on these as my top picks… and of course, I had to include the shot of Adam deep sea diving in his living room. Honestly, if I had all of these amazingly strange and beautiful octopus chandeliers in my house, I’d buy a wetsuit and harpoon too… let’s face it, it’s a good look.

i’m jealous of jonathan hull

I have lots of  job descriptions on my resume, but unfortunately ‘security guard at The Metropolitan Museum of Art‘ is not one of them. Perhaps if it was, I might have had enough quiet nights, flipping through old fine art auction catalogs, that I too could have created these lovely collages. But alas, someone else with a very full resume is responsible for them. New York based artist/teacher/writer/book critic {and of course, former security guard at The Met}, Jonathan Hull is the artist behind these fantastic pieces.

i’m jealous of amy santoferraro

One of my favourite ways to spend a Saturday afternoon is poking around a thrift shop. It’s like looking for a treasure… buried deeply in a whole bunch of other crap. But, every now and then you find something special, and in the case of American artist Amy Santoferraro, a whole truck load of special somethings. Her solo exhibition titled Just Visit is an homage to all of these weird and wonderful orphans. She has created a lovely 5 minute stop-motion animation that features all of her finds {and has great music}. But don’t go home yet! Head over to the Adopt-a-Surprise shelf and buy one of the stars from the film {very sweetly wrapped I might add}. Hm, maybe next time I’ll just skip the thrift shop, and head straight to Amy’s show!

‘Keeping true to catch and release practices, it’s time to let go. Some of these objects have been with me forever, some just a couple of weeks, but all of them have boasted some degree of promise or beauty to me. I ask that you blindly take them on, not knowing, but trusting that they will do something for you too. They were just visiting.’

~ Amy Santoferraro

i’m jealous of marlo pascual

New York based artist Marlo Pascual might start with found imagery, but that’s not where she stops. Nope, after that she enlarges, crops and alters the images until they’re just right. Just right for what? Well, for adding pins, rocks, plants and candles to, of course. But even then, she’s still not done. She plays with the placement of the work within the gallery space creating new relationships, and allowing the images to tell stories that they have never told before… and then she calls it a day.

{More of her work can be seen at Casey Kaplan Gallery in New York.}

i’m jealous of alisha amirkhanian

I don’t know anything about California-based artist Alisha Amirkhanian {ok, well, other than that she’s based in California}, but I do know that I absolutely love her paintings! I love her colour choices, her fine brushwork, and her attention to detail… right down to the incredibly poor dental hygiene of these very fancy ladies.

i’m jealous of samantha french… again

Warm sun, cool blue water, and a brand new red swimsuit. This is where I want to spend my weekend… inside any of these new paintings by New York based {Minnesota raised} artist Samantha French. Ahhhh…

i’m jealous of liesl pfeffer

Ahhh… there’s nothin’ like clean, crisp, cut & collaged mountain air to make you feel ridiculously jealous. Melbourne based artist Liesl Pfeffer snips photographs {which I believe are her own} into precise geometric shapes to create these gorgeous mountains. Now, if I could just get someone to make me a s’more, I’d be all set!

i’m jealous of jeff risinger & mark winn II

Obviously I’m going to need all of these lamps {aka Tupperlights}. I am totally dating myself by getting excited about this, but I can remember my mom hosting Tupperware parties, and then making jello-molds with bits of fruit and tiny marshmallows… do people still do either of those things? Well, not Jeff Risinger and Mark Winn II. From their studio in Ypsilanti, Michigan, they take these outdated Tupperware containers and turn them into updated, stylish, warm & glowy light fixtures for your home… jello not included.

{You can buy any of these lamps today at their Etsy store, Boots n’ Gus.}

i’m jealous of angela fama

I love this, because I do this… and, whether you realize it or not, you do it too! Mirrorface, a series by Canadian photographer Angela Fama, is beautiful, hilarious, and true. Here’s how it works. Each of her subjects were photographed twice. The first shot was taken straight on, like a passport photo. For the second shot however, Angela revealed a mirror below the camera, and left the room. She asked each person to look at themselves the way they would in that final check {that we all do} before heading out the door. When they thought they looked their best, they gave her a signal and, from the other room, she took the photo. The result… Mirrorface! What I find so interesting is that every single person in the series turned their head slightly to the side in order to look ‘just right’. Hmm, perhaps we’ve all seen one too many covers of Vogue!

{My ‘mirrorface’ consists of a head tilt/pout. Why? I have absolutely no idea… but clearly, I’m not alone.}

i’m still jealous of laura mckellar…

Ok, so it’s only been ten minutes since I last wrote about Laura McKellar, but I can’t control myself… she has so much great work to choose from that I just have to show a little bit more before I’m done jealously curating for the day. So here you go, two more digital prints on fabric, complete with hand embroidery that I’m sure will leave you feeling totally inspired… while slowly crushing your soul. Enjoy!
