I have a major thing for magnolias. They are all over my neighborhood, and every spring I am overjoyed to see them bloom… speaking of joy, I am kind of in love with this work by Maine based artist Kari Herer. Pink magnolia petals helping black ink beetles take flight… yep, pure joy.

LOVE!!! A friend pointed me to the portfolio of LA based photographer Jen Gotch… and I have basically just shown you everything in her ‘personal’ section! Well, that was the first half… here’s the second half:

Yep, it’s my birthday… the last one in my 30’s – um, when did that happen?! Anywho, I have always loved my birthday, and today is no exception! I thought I’d share a few of my favorite images from my “random lovely things” pinboard … because, quite frankly, most of them sort of scream birthday! Ok, here we go:

How do you know when someone is your friend? When they find something like this, and immediately send you the link {thank you Victoria!} These amazing painted animal masks on photographic portraits are the work of French artist Charlotte Caron. They were featured on Trendland yesterday, {so I’m sorry if you’ve already seen them}, but I couldn’t control myself – I had to post them too… it was that petite deer in her cream cable-knit sweater that got me!
Hm, jealous isn’t really the right word… I think obsessed is much more accurate! Yes. I am obsessed with the tiny, lovely little world of Duesseldorf based artist Sabine Timm. I’m about to show you what seems like most of her flickr stream, but I couldn’t help it {hence the term “obsession” I suppose}:
Gah!! Yep, I want to live in a teeny tiny house so that I can invite Sabine over for a teeny tiny cup of tea on a little bitty table… I call dibs on the chair though:

Oh, I do love a good Polaroid, and this project, titled Present Company, is full of them! In order to have a genuine interaction with someone she might otherwise never know, Washington DC based photographer Amber Byrne Mahoney walks up to complete strangers, asks to take their photo, and then has them answer one of two questions… “if you could ask a perfect stranger anything in the world, what would it be?” or “what is one thing you’d like people to know about you?” Their images, and answers, are below:
Love! Now, for a little behind the scenes… the reason Amber started this project was because of a chance encounter with a man, named Tyrone, shown in the final photo. It’s a lovely story filled with good will, guitars, and a whole bunch of warm fuzzies! You have to go and read this story!

Ok, I’m hoping these celestial-looking works, from a series titled Stellar, don’t give any of you an art-induced seizure… but, I just loved them so much, I had to take that risk! These are the work of New York based photographer Ignacio Torres. They are glittery, beautiful, and kinda bizarre… ah, my favorite combo! Here’s Ignacio’s description:
This project began from the theory that humans are made of cosmic matter as a result of a stars death. I created imagery that showcased this cosmic birth through the use of dust and reflective confetti to create galaxies. The models organic bodily expressions as they are frozen in time between the particles suggest their celestial creation. In addition, space and time is heightened by the use of three-dimensional animated gifs. Their movement serves as a visual metaphor to the spatial link we share with stars as well as their separateness through time.
I know nothing about this artist, except that her name is Caitlin Doherty. And I know nothing about this series, except that I’m about 83% sure it’s titled, Learn to Multiply. Hm, not a very informative post… but, here’s what I do know. I love it. The end.
