Holly Wales: Most likely to make me jealous using only felt-tip markers and white paper!

Oh I love this piece, titled “Class of” by London based artist/illustrator Holly Wales. This puts the doodles in my year book to shame! … hm… I’m pretty sure I dated the guy with the horns. Aaaaanyway. Oh, and look what she does with colored markers:

I might have to start a “Beth Hoeckel” fan club… I can already see my PRESIDENT sweatshirt… it will have meat & roses on it. I have written about Beth soooo many times because of her work, yes, but also because she does what so many of us wish we could do … she just makes and makes and makes! Yep, it’s something I admire very much in an artist – the head-down dedication to always be creating. Every time I go back to her site, there’s more, and look what I found today… Gah!!! Meat, roses, and a collection of junk food. All of it brings me pure joy. Would you like a little pure joy? Ok… every piece above {and many more on her site} are available as prints for $16. Six. Clouds, mountains, and collage. Ahhh… the only thing that might make me happier – being on that floaty mat, staring up at the sky with those gals! After yesterday’s post {filled with clouds and mountains}, I got a lovely email from a woman named Kate who said that I just had to check out her favorite artist, Canadian Becky Comber. So I did, and voila, today’s post {filled with more clouds and mountains} ♥

Usually, if I find an artist who has several series that I love, I manage to control myself and just show one. I could not do that today. Spanish artist Raúl Lázaro makes me jealous three times over. Reason No.1:

Oooh! Any artist that can make up their own river systems, from a bunch of found images, is ok in my books! Love.

Ok. Fine. Planking is kinda over. You know what’s not kinda over… these amazing pieces by Colombia based artist Aníbal Vallejo! Now, these are from 2011 so he made these gorgeous pieces {industrial embroidery and acrylic on canvas} smack dab in the middle of the meme. All five of these pieces are from a series titled “Ten variations about planking after Freud”. You can go and check out his site for the other five. Oh, and while you’re there have a look at everything he makes: paintings, drawings, embroidery… but alas, nothing to do with the Harlem Shake, or Grumpy Cat. Hm, maybe one meme per artist is enough.

I have a recurring dream, probably at least two or three times a year, in which I discover a dark little shop filled with the most insane collection of objects. Hm. Maybe American artist Kirstin Lamb has that same dream?! Looking at her paintings is kinda like discovering the weirdest antique shop in the world… or like finding a box way, way, waaaaay back in your grandmother’s closet that no one was ever meant to find. Ah, yes, these are pretty much my crazy dreams… brought to life with gouache!

Ooooh! Mirrored black and white photographs, with what is clearly the perfect amount of brightly-hued watercolor paint. All of these pieces are from a 2013 series, titled Miroir, by Paris based artist Fabienne Rivory. So just to recap… I’m jealous of her lovely work, and I’m jealous that she lives in Paris. Sigh. {ps. Volcanos? Mountains? Clouds? I’m not sure, but I love them all! These are the gorgeous oil paintings of UK based artist Georgina Vinsun, and the only thing I know about them is that they are all named after women… Marie, Tina, Josie… oh, but hold on, there’s a “Luke” in there too! I want to know more … and while I’m at it, I’d kinda love to see what a “Danielle” might look like?

I get motion sick reallllllly easily, but these beautiful & mesmerizing animated gifs are totallllllly worth it. This is the work of RRRRRRRROLL, a collective from Japan. There are five artists involved in art directing, shooting, and then animating these gorgeous, simple, muted, dizzying gifs. Lovely. Ok, I have to lie down now.

First of all, his name is James Angel. Jealous. And then there’s his retro, but not, paintings on shaped panels. Yep, jealous again… and don’t even get me going on that giant rainbow-ish gem. Don’t.
