i’m jealous of sarah boyts yoder

Ahhh, it’s finally summertime where I live {so much cold rain until last week!} so these strange/abstract-ish swimsuit paintings, by American artist Sarah Boyts Yoder, are totally speaking to me:

Yep, I want to jump into a blue pool, wearing neon red stripes! But hold on a second… there’s more. These are not swimsuit related, but I absolutely love them, so perhaps I’ll just enjoy them poolside:

Mmmm… summer hued GUM Dr p ♥  ~ and with that, I wish you a happy weekend! See ya on Monday!

i’m jealous of dennis bredow

Ooh, a flash from the past! I love vintage imagery, especially old packaging & advertising. Clearly, American artist Dennis Bredow does too. Found images that have been cropped and mounted to wood panel, with just the right amount of  acrylic paint. And, for obvious reasons, I think this one might be my favorite:

Ha! Remember that ad? Well, I’ve got my brush and pen… still waiting for the money to start rolling in… any day now!

i’m jealous of anna duthie

Um… I LOVE this. Anna Duthie is a recently graduated textiles student {from Glasgow School of Art} “specialising in embroidery for fashion. [Her] work reflects an appreciation of pattern, surface embellishment, contrasting textures and colour.” It sure does! Not only do I love her experimentations in materials, but I’m absolutely smitten with the way she’s put this project together… lovely repeating black & white ladies covered in colors, and shapes, and sparkles? Oh yes!

ART GOES … over there!

I’m not sure if you’ve seen my latest series of posts on sfgirlbybay, but I kind of love doing them! The column is called ART GOES HERE, and I write one every second Wednesday {which happens to be today!}. Basically, I find a beautiful interior design image, and using a little photoshop magic, I add three different selections of contemporary art to the shot. Sculpture, painting, installation – yep, anything goes!

To be totally honest, this is my dream job. Finding, and then hanging, the perfect art for someone’s home… I’d get to play matchmaker between artist and collector, and amazing work would end up on beautiful walls. Win, WIN! Here are a few little snippets from ART GOES HERE from the past few months {visit sfgirlbybay to see the full posts}:

{Art // 1. Tape ~ Alex Menocal 2. Lights ~ Steve Lambert 3. Photography ~ Amy Friend 4. Thread ~ Anne Lindberg 5. Chalk ~ Dana Tanamachi 6. Pen ~ Il Lee 7. Stairs – various images found on Pinterest by searching for ‘staircases’}

i’m jealous of kimia kline

Oh boy – there’s alotta stuff {water colors, drawings, oil paintings} in the portfolio of Nashville based artist Kimia Kline, but I managed to edit it down to a few favorites from the ‘oil paintings’ section. Lovely girls, and lovely color palettes … ♥

i’m jealous of allison freeman

If you know me, you know how much I love a good “to-do” list. What I love even more than the actual list, is crossing things off of the list. And, what I love even more than crossing things off of the list, are these oil paintings of crossed off lists, by Brooklyn based artist Allison Freeman.

i’m jealous of hsiao-ron cheng

Ok, who’s kinda freaked out by this scary cuteness? Me too… but it’s still my favorite kind of cuteness, and clearly Taipei based artist Hsiao-Ron Cheng has mastered it! She uses a combination of pencil, oil paint, mixed media and digital techniques to create these beautiful/weird little scenes… hm, I sure hope that girl’s scarf is going to double as a parachute! Well, at least she’s got a better chance than the bunny girl who just got eaten by a T-Rex. Ouch.

i’m jealous of briar mark

Yep, I could have done this on my Mac too… but I didn’t, and neither did Auckland based artist & designer Briar Mark. She hand-stitched it all. Hilarious, and an excellent statement on craft vs. technology. LOVE! Speaking of love, check out this time lapse video of her hard at work…

i’m jealous of kendra dandy

Oooh, the pattern design of artist Kendra Dandy {aka Bouffants & Broken Hearts}. Right now, on Society 6, you can buy a bunch of stuff covered in these gorgeous patterns {iPhone cases, laptop sleeves, as art on canvas etc}. But wait, there’s more good news! As we speak, she’s having some of these beauties made into fabric! Tell me, would watermelon shorts and a “polka dot sweater” be too much? Hm, maybe, but I might be willing to give it a shot… you know, for art’s sake.

i’m jealous of liu ye

And my obsession with slightly strange portraits continues! I can’t help but love these very sweet faces by Chinese artist, Liu Ye. Flat fields of color, rosy cheeks, and of course, Miffy the Bunny… because let’s be honest, no one can resist Miffy.
