Ok, this is very cool! First of all, one-off neon risograph prints… cool. Secondly, uploading photos from your phone to make your own custom neon risograph prints… cool. But here’s where it gets really cool: to celebrate the holiday season a lovely friend of mine, who happens to be on the inside at Parabo Press, asked if I’d like to give 100 of my readers {first come first serve} a FREE 12″x17″ risograph print, made from one of your own photos… COOL. I tried it and it’s super easy… well, except that whole ‘which image should I use’ part! Here are some picture-picking tips from the folks over at Parabo:

“Like any monochrome printing process risos look best when the photo you are printing is high contrast. That means the dark spots are really dark and the bright spots are really bright. That is because monochrome printers only distinguish light/dark and not color. Not every amazing color photo will make a great monochrome print. The simplest way to visualize it in your head is to think of a pretty red rose on a green background. Pretty pretty in color, but if you turned that image black and white, it would just look like medium grey on medium grey … not so stunning. You can open the Parabo App on your phone and choose a photo from your camera roll to preview as a risograph. Easy peasey.”

Whoa. This is the work {painting (1), screenprints (2,3), murals (4-14)} of Brooklyn based artist Maya Hayuk. Gorgeous, colorful patterns that “recall traditional Ukrainian crafts, airbrushed manicures, and mandalas.” My first thought was wow, she must go through a lot of tape, but I’m pretty sure it’s all freehand, which is even more amazing. On one hand, they’re so precise {the patterns, color choices, angles}, but on the other side they’re so free {no tape, drips, wavering lines}… what a stunning combo! Her work is so vibrant and full of energy… and it looks like she is too! I’m going to start posing like Maya in every photo from now on! #handsoverhead

Ok, I know it’s July, but in the world of Land of Nod, Fall has arrived! This is my second collection for Land of Nod, and I could not be more excited about all of the gorgeous work, and talented artists who made brand new pieces for this project. Watercolor, tapestries, papier mache mobiles, paper cats… I love it all so much! Oh, and this is a cool little tidbit … those two sweet little wiener dogs, by Canadian artist Louisa Jensen, are named after my dogs, Stella & Murphy! ♥  You can find all of these, and pieces from my Spring 2015 collection, right here.

Yes! This is a little #tbt from a few months ago… I wrote about French born, New Zealand based artist Anne-Sophie Adelys. Well, she emailed me a few days ago and said that after I wrote about her, so many of you showed her a ton of love and support … so she asked if she could give ONE OF YOU a limited edition print… I said, “Um, okay!” and picked this beauty, titled “1994”. I could literally spend hours looking through the Instagram feed of Seattle based artist Cheyenne Randall… ok, I just did. I cannot get enough! He adds the most beautifully hand-drawn tattoos to some of pop culture’s favorite icons… from Twiggy to Marilyn to Elvis. Mother’s Day always makes me feel really nostalgic. I have so many sunny childhood memories of my mom, and now that I’m a mama there are so many moments with my son that I wish I could bottle forever … hence my latest collage! Days at the beach, road trips in the family car, playing in the garden, and homemade popsicles in the backyard. Gasp! Don’t you love it when you find new work by one of your favorite artists? I sure do! Portland based painter Lisa Golightly is the artist behind these dreamy, blue, beachy, oh so beautifully captured memories of summer days gone by… yes, even that memory of your bathing suit riding up a tiny bit.

{All of these gorgeous blue-hued pieces are available as prints in my online gallery, and all of them are only $35… what?! Yep. True story.}

I cannot even express how much I love this. I wrote about both of these artists during 2014… the first is the paper-sculpture work of San Francisco based artist Tiffanie Turner, and the second is the manipulated photographic work of UK based artist Simone Truong. Have a look:

Gorgeous, right? Well they thought so too! Tiffanie saw Simone’s work when I wrote about it, and reached out to see if Simone would be up for doing a collaboration… she said YES! Amazing! Here’s the result:

Gasp! Tiffanie’s paper flowers melting like birthday cake icing in July! Here is their joint statement about this project:

“Although working in different mediums, different scales and even different countries, artists Simone Truong and Tiffanie Turner both have one element in common; their subject matter. Flora are at the center of both of their works, inevitably forging an exploration into the difference in scale and mediums. In this new work, Truong strays away from exploring the transitionary states that occur in natural phenomena to embrace the delicate and still beauty of Turner’s giant, intricate paper flowers. By scaling these large, explosive blooms back down to a size manageable on the printed page, Truong captures their solitary beauty in a way their original capacity never would have granted. Truong and Turner worked together to find the tension and balance in these compositions, which were executed by Truong in her UK studio.”

I am incredibly proud of this collection. These are the four pieces that I curated for the Jealous Curator Collection on Sebastian Foster this year! Sigh. So many gorgeous pieces… AND, I have to say, these are the nicest group of artists {ps. isn’t it kind of amazing/funny how all of their bio photos match perfectly with their work!?} They’ve been a dream to work with, and I’m so happy that I could share these pieces with you. Our goal was to bring you some very unique pieces, while keeping them very affordable… mission accomplished, yes? Anyway, I just wanted to remind you about them again. Oh. The work of LA based artist Brooks Salzwedel. I wrote about him a year ago, and you guys went crazy… rightly so! His work is layered, and magical, and oh so stunning. When I was putting together my list of “must-have” artists for the Jealous Curator Collection on Sebastian Foster, I just knew that I had to do something with Brooks! Luckily he said yes, and voila, the newest addition to the collection! It’s titled “Purple Blue Mountain”, and it is officially on my Christmas list. Let’s take a closer look at all of this layery-goodness {aka resin, graphite, tape, inkjet}, shall we?

Sigh. So, so good. I sure hope Santa heard that whole “Christmas list” thing.
