i’m jealous of scott listfield

Scott Listfield paints astronauts. Lots and lots of astronauts, all of whom are here from a few decades back to “explore the present”. They might be a bit disappointed though, because I’m pretty sure that by 2010 they were expecting flying cars, and silver everything as promised in movies like 2001 : A Space Odessy, and 1984. Well, don’t worry lonely little astronauts, I think I have a few nice, modern girls that would love to show you around… maybe you could even take them out for a donut.

{Scott’s work is currently showing in a two man show at the Laconia Gallery in Boston… Dec 3th – January 29th}

christmas wish list 2010

I’ve been jealous a lot in the last two years, so this wish list could easily go on forever, however, I’ve managed to control myself as much as humanly possible. Here are a few things that I would love to see under my Christmas tree this year… Santa, are you listening?

Ok, now this last one isn’t art {technically}, but it’s been on my wish list every year since I was a kid:

Mmmm, chips… no, no – not a huge, sculptural installation that looks like a pile of chips {although that would be pretty cool}… I just want plain old potato chips. Preferably with dip.

I hope that all of you get what you’re wishing for too… Happy Holidays everyone! xo

i’m jealous of shaun downey

Wish List : #296… have a soft, beautiful, and insanely well-executed portrait of myself painted by Toronto based artist Shaun Downey… in the forest, wearing a fancy yellow prom dress, with daisies in my hair. Oh, and I also want those lavender rain boots {Wish #297}.

i’m jealous of frédéric bonnin & cécile figuette

My first instinct is to run out and buy fancy frames for all of these amazing pieces… except that I probably wouldn’t be able to find any that were big enough. These are actually large scale wall treatments by Frédéric Bonnin and Cécile Figuette, owners of Minakani, a Paris based design studio that specializes in creating patterns for textiles used in fashion and home furnishings. Two years ago they created these custom wall treatments, saving you the trouble of ever having to buy another frame… why bother, when your entire wall could be a huge piece of art!

i’m jealous of jason decaires taylor

Can you imagine coming across either of these underwater installations while out for a swim?! I know. Insanely beautiful, kinda spooky, and environmentally friendly all in one shot. I am totally mesmerized by these life-size concrete sculptures by Cancun based artist Jason deCaires Taylor… oh sure, they may have started out as statues, but given a little time, and some amazing sea creatures, they have literally come to life. Stunning.

{Thanks to Briony Evans, Creative Director at the Honfleur Gallery, for sending this work my way.}

i’m jealous of beth hoeckel

I realize that it’s not polite to stare, but  when you come across mountain ranges {both regular and crocheted}, a ridiculously giant moon, a billowing tower of smoke, and the collage work of American artist Beth Hoeckel… well, it’s kinda hard to look away, no?

i’m jealous of ruan hoffmann

Dishware or art? I’m going with ‘art’, because even though it would be hilarious to serve a piece of chocolate cake on that guy’s forehead, I just don’t think I could bring myself to do something like that to the beautiful work of Pretoria based artist Ruan Hoffmann. No – I think I’ll just hang these on the wall, and skip dessert tonight thank you very much.

{Thanks to Louis for sending Ruan’s work my way!}

i’m jealous of sebastiaan bremer

Well, I’m off to spend a snowy weekend in the mountains… clearly a perfect time to write about Dutch artist Sebastiaan Bremer. Ahh, sipping hot chocolate by the fire {or drinking white wine with young boys} while watching tiny drops of ink fall down from the sky… so lovely. See you on Monday xo

je suis jaloux de ma + chr

Ahh, Paris… home to croissants, fancy poodles and Ma + Chr, a design studio created by Mathilde Aubier and Christine Delaquaize. So, where should I begin with my list of things to be jealous of? I already mentioned that they live in Paris, right? Right, ok, then, moving on. Well, how about the fact that they cover the spectrum when it comes to creative endeavors… print, textiles, mixed media, web, interior design! Basically, if it’s creative, they do it. Oh, and of course, those cats! I love those cats with their giant, vintage lady eyes! Yep, je suis très jaloux.

i’m jealous of russell leng

I’ll admit it, this is not usually the style of work that I write about. To be perfectly honest, the first thing I did when I found these little gems {pun totally intended} by Canadian artist Russell Leng was send them  off to Erin Loechner at Design For Mankind, because yes, these are absolutely her kind of thing… but wait, I can’t stop looking at them. A lot. Aaaannnd, now I’m jealous. Well there you have it… these gorgeous, layered, rocky acrylic paintings are my kind of thing!
