I wrote about Canadian artist Kate O’Connor {almost two years ago} because I was totally jealous of her hilarious embroidered hankies… I had no idea about these little gems! Tiny gouachey socks, surrendering milk jugs, and a cushion fort on pastel paper? Yep. I’m totally jealous… again.

Stand on a bench. Make sure it’s Monday. Wear something pretty.
These were the rules that American fashion editor/reporter, turned photographer, Heidi Lender followed for this series titled Once Upon. That’s how it started anyway. Clearly on the path to self-discovery, she chose to leave the glossy pages of the fashion world and moved to India nine years ago to study yoga. Well, somewhere between upward and downward dog she picked up a camera, and over a whole bunch of Mondays, this fun weekly assignment ended up exposing the many layers of who she really was… wild, controlled, tough, sweet, and quite obviously, always fashionable!
{ps. speaking of upward and downward dogs, how cute is her dog? my crazy wiener hounds would just be a blur running past in the background!}
Sigh. These lovely drawings by Dublin-based designer/illustrator Denise Nestor are exactly what I’m in the mood to be jealous of today… something soft, beautiful, and chock-full of amazing artistic skill {…and the bunny ears are just icing on the cake!}
{via my love for you}
These handmade pages by American artist Samantha Cotterill {aka mummysam} make me want to dust off the old sewing machine and roll out the bobbin thread… except that I haven’t even thought about sewing since I was forced to make a pair of Bermuda shorts in ninth grade Home Ec. Hm, maybe I’ll just covet these instead. Yes… much better plan.
{Now that I have you in a sewing kind of mood, come on over to sfgirlbybay and see the newest addition to ‘the house that jealousy built‘…}
Tape. It’s just tape! So simple, yet even if I had thought of it, I’m certain it wouldn’t have been executed this perfectly. These boxes {that are just tape!}, are from a series titled Made In:Side, by Croatian artist Igor Eskinja. He is a master when it comes to tricking the eye, and playing with space, and these perfectly executed boxes are… well… a perfect example!
Blah. I’m sick. I need to be cozy, eat soup and sleep… but that doesn’t mean you can’t be a little bit jealous this weekend. Check out these five artists, and call me in the morning: 1) Kate Pugsley 2) Langdon Graves 3) Jenny Meilihove 4) Steve MacDonald 5) Anila Rubiku
Embroidery and vintage postcards… Oh, Shaun Kardinal, what are you doing to me? No self-respecting person should be this jealous on a Friday morning.

Oh. my. word. You can almost smell the crisp night air, can’t you? The fireflies, however, have been replaced with this insanely magical light installation by British lighting designer/artist Bruce Munro. I can’t even imagine how amazing this must have been in person. If I wasn’t two years late writing about this, you can bet I’d be on a plane to England as we speak! Field of Light was displayed at the Eden Project in Cornwall from 1st November 2008 – 31st March 2009. Mind you, it was also exhibited at the V&A museum in London, and “under the shadow of an ancient hill” in southwest England. Hmm, maybe that means he’ll display this piece again… and hopefully this time I’ll know about it just a touch sooner!
Ok, let me clarify that. I’m jealous of the one night stand at the Ole Miss Motel… hm, that didn’t sound much better. Ok, I’ll try one more time. I’m jealous of an art show, that just happened in Oxford Mississippi, titled The One Night Stand at the Ole Miss Motel:
There. My reputation has been saved, and now you know about a very cool little art show that has taken place in a few motel rooms, for a few hours, every fall for the past four years. I’m totally jealous of this idea… so truly brilliant if you’re a curator without a gallery. Hey, who needs a commitment like that when you can just have a one night stand, right!?
{I love the posters for this event! These are from the past three years… I couldn’t find this year’s version. Maybe it’s still back at the motel?}
Sigh. I love this… and the 10 year old me {who happened to be the co-founder/president of the “Rainbow Girls” ~ an exclusive club for me and my other rainbow/unicorn/candy lovin’ 10 year old friends} really, really loves this! pip & pop {aka Perth based artists Tanya Schultz and Nicole Andrijevic} showed this magical installation piece titled, Under the Crystal Sky at the Japan Foundation in Sydney this past Spring. Ahh, if only the “Rainbow Girls” were still together… we could put our clubhouse smack-dab in the middle of this sugary, fairytale land!
{Thanks to Michelle Lee for sending this my way! xx}
