i’m jealous of jordan owens

I have painted on a lot of stuff. Wood, old signs, and even a broken TV {don’t ask}, but damn, I really wish I’d thought of painting teeny-tiny portraits on discarded colour chips. Luckily for all of us, Jordan Owens didn’t toss them out after the reno, instead she turned them into art… I wonder what she could have done with that TV?
{I found Jordan Owens on the always lovely Pikaland.}
i’m jealous of WAFA’s collage books

Close your ears kids… We Are Fucking Awesome aka WAFA is a group of artists who are just that. Fucking Awesome. And so is this project. The control freak in me would have a very difficult time with this, but it would be an amazing and educational experience for just about any artist. Here’s what I’m jealous of:
‘A series of 9 collage books, passed back and forth between artists. As an experiment in disassociation, an effort was made to add to and tear away at eachother’s work, eliminating personal stake and attachment to the final outcome.’
See? Really hard, but fucking awesome none-the-less.
i’m jealous of lehel kovács

Artsy, collectible postcards from around the globe? Nope. It’s a sketchbook full of hand-drawn Google street views by Lehel Kovács, an illustrator based in Budapest. Wouldn’t it be great if this is what Google street views actually looked like? My neighbourhood would appear so much cooler with a few loose pencil lines and a bunch of washy colour blocks. Well, I’m inspired to get my sketchbook out and, oh why not, maybe do a quick trip around the world. First stop… Baltimore.
{These six were my favourite, but there’s plenty more where this came from. Oh, and thanks to Words and Eggs for introducing me to this work. I love it!}
i’m jealous of jonna pohjalainen

I don’t know about you, but I always get a huge rush when I go into an art supply shop… so imagine how I felt when I found these!
In 2006, Helsinki based artist Jonna Pohjalainen spent the summer at the Environmental Art workshop of the Open Air Art Museum in Pedvale, Latvia. She arrived there supply-less and with an open mind. Everyday she would sit quietly taking in the rural landscape, sharpening her pencils and watching the sun set. Really, what else could she do but turn these grey aspen logs into an enormous, beautiful, art-supply-rush-inducing sculpture, titled Colour Pencils.
i’m jealous of brandon lattu

Oh, I love these pieces. They’re from a series titled Library, by Brandon Lattu… but I have to be honest, I have no idea what they are. I thought they were some sort of screen print/mixed media thing, but I think they might be digital. Oh well, who cares how he did them, it really all comes down to the soul-crushing fact that I did not do them. Damn.
{I found Brandon, and yesterday’s post Karin Bubas, at Toronto’s CLARK & FARIA Gallery.}
i’m jealous of karin bubas

OMG you guys. These chalk pastel portraits by Karin Bubas are so totally not random. They are the opposite of random… but honestly, I’m not sure what the word for that would be because that’s where my ‘Hills’ lingo runs out. OMG and random. That’s all I’ve got. Now, not that any of us really need to see more of Spencer and Heidi Pratt, well not that we’ll admit to anyway, I just had to show these drawings. I love ’em. I love ’em all.
{When you go to Karin’s portfolio site, be sure to check out her photo series called ‘Florence and George’. It’s not random either.}
i’m jealous of todd hido

Ok, please don’t judge me. I have a little thing about looking into people’s windows at night. Just to be clear, it’s not a ‘creepy peeping tom’ thing, it’s more of an ‘appreciation of interior design’ thing… you can get a really good view when it’s dark outside! Anywho, when I came across Todd Hido‘s photo series, titled Homes at Night, I knew I wasn’t alone. There is something so comforting about these images. It’s cold and dark outside, but inside this home it’s warm and safe… now, if only I could see what kind of couch they picked.
i’m jealous of jen stark

Um, I don’t even know where to start, which makes me wonder, how on earth does Jen Stark know where to start? Well, at the paper store I guess. Yes, that’s right, I said paper. These insanely beautiful sculptures are made entirely of hand cut paper. I can’t even begin to imagine the focus required to create something like this… not to mention the hand cramps! Yowch.
i’m jealous of anthony freda

Anthony Freda is a very successful American artist/illustrator whose politically charged work has appeared in Rolling Stone, The New Yorker, Esquire, The New York Times… you get the idea, right? Yep, it’s a very impressive list. Obviously, his portfolio is filled with amazing work to be jealous of, but for some reason I kept gravitating towards the boys with guns {Hm, I wonder what Freud would say about that?}. I love the crow and Mr.Peanut too, but mainly I showed them just so you’d know that Anthony does in fact focus on subject matter other than kids holding heavy artillery… but really, can you blame me? They’re just so cool.
{If you happen to find yourself in Vegas between March 5th ~ 27th you can see his current show, ‘all that glitters’, at Trifecta Gallery.}
i’m jealous of karolin schnoor

Happy Groundhog Day… does that mean I can get ready for Spring? Please!? Ok fine, if I have to wait a little longer at least I can pass the time with Karolin Schnoor‘s beautiful Hibernation zine. The idea behind this cozy covered book is to treat ‘human hibernation as an actuality, advising on products and addressing the psychological steps that need to be taken to successfully hibernate.’ Sounds good to me! Call me when the tulips are up… Zzzzzzzz
