A candy-hued, geometric wonderland set against an aqua sky. Oh, the photographs of Munich based photographer Nick Frank. Here’s the description of this series, titled Mira:

“Mira” is a shopping center located at Munich/Germany Dülferstrasse. I found the colourful facade very interesting which stands in contrast to the part of the city where the building has been built. The entire Mira series has been published in the book “geometry makes me happy“.

And, just so you can see how truly special his perspective is, here’s the shopping center in its entirety…

Kind of a weird building in the middle of a field, right? His angles, use of light, and compositions turn this weird building in the middle of a field into that candy-hued, geometric wonderland I mentioned twenty seconds ago. Love.

Fun. Weird. Beautiful.

“Each of these portraits is the result of physically weaving together two photographic prints of the same sitter.” LOVE! This is the work of Brooklyn based photographer David Samuel Stern, and if you didn’t pick up on my subtlety, I LOVE it all! And now I’m a tiny bit dizzy.

Sigh… If these don’t scream Happy Friday, then I just don’t know what does. These gorgeous summery photographs are the work of LA based photographer Max Wanger. I was so happy to meet Max last fall when the show I curated at The Fig House opened. His work is just so fun, warm and dreamy… I think I had about 8 of his photographs in there! This is new {like, really new!} work by Maine based artist Jennifer Booher. I wrote about her in 2011… she’s known for collecting, sorting, and photographing bits ‘n pieces that she finds on the beach. But not today. For this work she collected, sorted, and photographed MY bits ‘n pieces! YES! Jennifer emailed me a few months ago and said she wanted to work with me on something that we could show in my GREAT.LY gallery. She wanted to break away from her usual work, and do a portrait… kinda. I immediately rushed into my studio and gathered up all of the precious little things that I’ve been hoarding for, well, decades in some cases. I packed them up and sent them off to Maine so that Jennifer could work her magic. And then she did!

Each little item in this gorgeous “portrait” means something to me… those spools of thread belonged to my great grandmother, that gold horse is from GIRL CRUSH in Portland, I bought that big B when I was in Paris years ago in honor of my grandmother, Blanche, who had just passed away. Thank you so much to Jennifer for doing this with me… the final pieces are so gorgeous, and now my weird “Danielle Collection” is documented forever! ♥

Sigh. Vintage photos covered in fireflies! Well, not really, but that’s what I like to imagine. Canadian photographer Amy Friend has just created a whole bunch of new work, as a continuation of her magical Dare alla Lucce series. I’ve written about this series before, but in case you haven’t seen that, and you’re wondering what these stunning pieces are all about, here is Amy’s description:

“Through hand-manipulated interventions I altered and subsequently re-photographed the images “re-making” photographs that oscillate between what is present and what is absent. I aim to comment on the fragile quality of the photographic object but also to the equal fragility of our lives, our history. All are lost so easily. By playing with the tools of photography, I “re-use” light by allowing it to shine through the holes in the images. In a somewhat playful and yet literal manner, I return the subject of the photographs back to the light, while simultaneously bringing them forward. The images are permanently altered; they are lost and reborn, hence the title, Dare alla Luce, an Italian term meaning, “to bring to the light”, in reference to birth.”

Brilliant, and oh so dreamy! I am lucky enough to have one of her pieces from a few years ago, but all of these new images are currently available at Citizen Atelier. {Go now!}

I’ve written about LA based photographer Stephanie Vovas a lot over the years. Last fall I included some of her always sassy, 1960s B-movie-esque work in the show I hung at The Fig House, and I’m thrilled that she’s also one of the artists featured in my book. When we finally met in person last November, it was friends at first sight! Speaking of amazing soul-sisters in LA, I also met my now very dear friend Autumn Reeser a couple of years ago, thanks to twitter. She’s a fantastic actor {Hawaii 5-0, Last Resort, Entourage, The OC…} and founder of Move LifeStyle. Anyway, being the matchmaker that I am, I just knew that these two fabulous, fun, beautiful, talented, LA based women had to meet, and obviously, do a shoot… and they did! Here are the very sultry, very vintage results of a day they spent together this past March:

See! I knew they’d make magic! … and then, well, I may have found my way in front of Stephanie’s camera for a minute or two as well. Ready? Oh boy, here we go…

I got Vovas’d! So fun, but also really weird to get that much attention… we had our hair transported back to the 60’s by the lovely Nicole, our smokey makeup applied by the always fabulous Stephen, and then of course, Stephanie and her camera transformed us into vintage bombshells! Autumn made it look so easy, and I did my best. Stephanie also caught a little bit of “behind-the-scenes” action, which was fantastic as it mainly involved playing with Autumn’s sweet little boys:

It was an amazing day spent with a group of truly lovely people, who I am so happy to call my friends. Thanks for taking me along on this very glamorous ride!

I wrote about an architect/artist yesterday, and here we are again! Instead of giant, precise paper flowers, today is all about black and white buildings and some very precise, colorful embroidery. This is a new body of work by one of my favorite artists, Chilean artist María Aparicio Puentes. If you happen to be in Madrid between now and June 15th {lucky you!} you can pop in and see this gorgeous work in person {lucky you, again!}. Here’s the info:

I love numbers, and I love New York … so yes… I love this photo series titled New York Numbers by Nick DiLallo. He sent me an email with a link to his number-covered instagram feed, and I wanted to start working on this post immediately. I wrote him back to do a bit of pre-post fact checking, and silly me, assumed he was a professional photographer. Nope. He’s a copywriter at an ad agency by day, and an instagramming / number loving genius later that day. Don’t you love it when super talented people surprise you like that? Me too.

Boy, those owl scouts cannot catch a break! Doesn’t this look like an amazing movie? Well, it’s not, because it’s not a movie! Nope, these are a few theatrically stunning photographs from a series by American photographer Todd Baxter, titled Owl Scouts. Those poor little owl scouts are not having the best day, but they sure are gorgeous! It took me a minute to realize that they were photos… they’re so painterly, beautifully lit, and completely fantastical. If Wes Anderson ever decides to do a much darker version of Moonrise Kingdom, I think Todd might have a few excellent art direction ideas.

Gasp! How gorgeous is this outdoor installation by photographer Autumn de Wilde?! It’s titled Lighting, Layers and Reflections, and from what I can tell she built it/shot it for an Escalade ad. Well, whatever it was for, I just can’t get over how gorgeous these little, colorful, mirrored houses are! Oh, I sure hope they left them there after the shoot was over… can you imagine road-tripping past these beauties just as the morning sun is coming up? ♥ ♥ ♥
