Seriously. How beautiful is this? Wearable art, indeed. This is a beautiful combination … fashion and the embroidery work of Moscow based artist Lisa Smirnova. Here’s the full story:

“Artist At Home” –  A new collection from Olya Glagoleva’s eco-friendly brand GO in collaboration with Lisa Smirnova. Artist At Home is a story about the creative process of an artist which has been told through the language of textile. Fabrics used in the collection are cashmere, organic Indian hemp & cotton, 80’s denim jeans and vintage towels sourced from London’s famous Portobello Road; as well as plaid blankets from Flea markets in Wales. The collection tells the story of a painter whose studio and her home is a single space, where both home and work clothing mix together. The story of the creative process will captivate you and transport you to the artist’s parallel reality. Every garment is made only once, each decorated with hand embroidery in the unique style of Lisa Smirnova. The clothes themselves are pieces of art, lovingly created in a process that spans up to 100 hours each. In keeping with the GO tradition, every piece will be packed in a separate box made from recycled wood with detailed information about the item and a small book included with the full story of the creation.

Usually when you hear the name Jaime Derringer it’s associated with the very stylish, very popular blog, Design Milk. Since 2006, Jaime has spent her days writing about / discovering incredibly talented designers … furniture, jewelry, architecture, and of course artists. But when the sun goes down, or whenever she has a bit of free time {which isn’t often} she is also an artist herself. Drawing, painting, and a fine combination of both. I didn’t know much about how she started, her process, when the heck she fits this into her very busy life… so I asked her. Listen right up there, or subscribe on iTunes. Now, before we talk about art, we have to watch this little tidbit that came up fairly early in our conversation: Ross Geller from “Friends” on keyboard… Jaime, is this what it looks like when you rock out on your new synthesizer? Ha! So, so awesome. Alright, time for art. Here are some of Jaime’s abstract paintings, and her gorgeous “string” drawings:

I would hang a little cluster of these together on a wall. I love the combination of precision and her “go with the flow” / “happy accident” approach. It’s kinda crazy that these pieces were made by the same person! And, a little peek into her drawing sketchbook that she works in at night… once her day at Design Milk is over, and her little girl has gone to bed:

She has been keeping a great record of her sketchbook pages through the years… you can see them all right here. And finally, her love of jewelry design has made its way from her body {every time I see her she’s wearing some kind of stunning piece}, to her newest venture, ADORN\milk:

Gah! Gorgeous… art that you wear! No. I cannot deal with the hilarious, weird, cuteness of these  little “totems”! They are the work of California based artist Laura Johnston. That dinosaur and sloth are killing me, and I have a fat little wiener dog that looks exactly like that fat little wiener dog! She releases new clay totems every Wednesday – hey, that’s today – so pop over and see if there’s anything that speaks to your inner wild lemming. Now, how do you keep your totem with you all day? No problem, Laura also makes these sweet pewter pieces … and I happen to have these four hilarious necklaces for sale in my online gallery! If you want one move quick like a Jackalope because they’re going fast (they’re only $34?!)… I really want that narwhal. Ooh, or the sloth. Ok, and maybe the raptor and his little Velveteen Rabbit friend too.

Stunning, crazy, organic, colorful ceramics… that you can wear! These small sculptures {aka rings} are the work of Polish artist Aneta Regel. Oh my goodness, I’m not even sure where to start. Luckily I found these words on her site, describing her work:

… Trees, rocks, fields, river-beds – these and other aspects of landscape are the images through which she seeks to convey her vision. A romantic to the core, she wants not only to capture the forms, energies and rhythms of these natural phenomena but to suggest the emotional response they evoke in her. Growing up in her native northern Poland, she was often confronted by the large stones, smooth round excrescences left behind by glacier action, that abound in the forests and have become the focus of legends, being endowed with anthropomorphic and quasi-magical powers…

Well, I know I’d have some kind of magical powers if I wore one of these beauties. Love.

A week ago I did post about Lisa Golightly as part of #makegood – a campaign that shone a bright light on several GREAT.LY makers. Well, we decided to turn it into a bit of a competition between tastemakers by putting everyone into teams, and seeing which group could make the most sales for our makers… my team won! These are so weird, and so beautiful! Daniel Ramos Obregón is a Colombian designer/fashion artist who just recently graduated with an MA Fashion Artefact at London College of Fashion. This body {pun intended} of work is titled Outrospection, The Body and Mind. It is a collection of hand crafted porcelain body casts, gold plated brass metal frames that encompass the body, hand turned Colombian kingwood handles, and vegetable-tanned leather harnesses. Weird. And so beautiful.

Collages, totally made up authors/novels, and perfume… what a magical combination! Perfumer Josh Meyer is the creator of Imaginary Authors – a collection of perfumes with personality. Each scent is brought to life using a fictional author, and their stories, to draw you into the scent. So fun! And not only that, each story/perfume also has a custom found-image collage as it’s label. Josh teamed up with artist Ashod Simonian for those. Now, I have no idea what these perfumes smell like, but I’m thinking “The Soft Lawn” might be lovely for a summer day, while “The Cobra and The Canary” might get me into a bit of trouble!

On November 8th, Typhoon Haiyan {local name Yolanda} struck a path of destruction through the Philippines affecting millions of people. The images seen were heartbreaking and the stories of loss unimaginable. Artists Heal PH, an online pop-up shop of art + goods, was created by Nancy Mungcal, Michelle Mungcal and Neysa Bowers {sisters} to help support relief efforts … this was where they came from – the place their family called home. Artists Heal PH will be open from November 28 – December 31. All net proceeds will be donated to benefit The International Rescue Committee.

They have gathered so much amazing work, from so many generous artists who have given their work for free. Here are a few of my favorites:
