i’m jealous of ashley joseph edwards

I’ve seen the collage work of London based artist Ashley Joseph Edwards popping up all over the internet lately, but it was his image of that sweet little pink pyramid saying her bedtime prayers that got me. What do you think she’s praying for? A face? A hat? Both?

i’m jealous of amber ibarreche

I haven’t said this out loud in awhile, but it definitely applies today… Damn, I wish I thought of this! Brooklyn based artist Amber Ibarreche is a multi-talented gal, but it’s these bizarre collections of hers that have punched me square in the creative gut… yep, that’s gonna leave a mark.

i’m jealous of lucas grogan

Ok, I’m jealous of anyone that can concentrate long enough to make something this unbelievably detailed! These amazing pieces are from a series, titled Black & Blue, by Melbourne based artist Lucas Grogan. Is anyone else getting a hand cramp just looking at these! So many tiny blue lines!

{ps. this work is ink, watercolor & acrylic on mat board and averages about 32x24cm}

i’m jealous of zadok ben david

Wait… what are we looking at here? Yes, it’s a metal garden, by London based artist Zadok Ben David, made up of 12,000 cut steel flowers & plants. The vintage, text-book looking botanical specimens are black, hence the title Blackfield, but hold on a second… if you walk around to the other side of this lovely ‘field’… YES, the opposite side of this breath-taking installation is painted in stunning color! Gorgeous.

{via Colossal – check out the 360 degree view video of the installation posted on Colossal – amazing!}

i’m still jealous of aris moore

Oh, Aris Moore. I love her work so, so much. I wrote about her in 2009, in 2010, and now in early 2012. She is currently working on her MFA and it’s amazing to go through her blog and actually see the evolution of her work! Apparently, according to said blog, she is playing around with the idea of making a little book out of the series shown here… YES! DO IT ARIS!!!

i’m jealous of sarah mcneil

Ah, the lovely drawings of New Zealand based artist Sarah McNeil. I’ve had the drawing of that first little girl, titled ‘Poison Tears of Love’, tucked away in my ‘oh my word, I love this!’ folder for ages… and so today is the day! I didn’t want her to be lonely though {seeing how she’s already crying poison tears of love} so I added a few beautifully drawn friends, both furry, and not. LOVE!

i’m jealous of fabien souche

Did your mother ever tell you not to play with your food? Well, I don’t think French born, Brussels based artist Fabien Souche ever got that lecture… thank goodness! Ah, yes… meat collage. So, so good.

happy new year!

YAY! Happy 2012!!!

I just wanted to take a moment to say thank you all so much for being part of The Jealous Curator. February will be three years {crazy?!}, and it’s unbelievable how much I’ve learned because of you. The first very loud message from 2011 was this: we all have doubts, and artist blocks, and days when we wonder why we put ourselves through the creative process… but then we make things that we love, or find work by others that move us in some way, and it all becomes clear. We have to be artists, because it’s in us. Yep, I said us. That was lesson number two… none of us are alone in this {even if it feels like it sometimes}. Thank you so much for coming along on my little adventure… I can’t wait to see what kind of inspiration, creativity and excitement this new year will bring! Ok, now go make stuff so that I have something to be jealous of in 2012! xo

ps. I have a few very exciting projects {that I hope you’ll be part of!} to tell you about in the next couple of weeks… see, 2012 is already starting off with a bang!

i’m jealous of gaëlle villedary

Sigh… I would love to follow this grassy path through the lovely town of Jaujac France! This installation is titled Tapis Rouge, and was created by Marseille based artist Gaëlle Villedary. Here’s what Google Translate has to tell us about this gorgeous project:

In the heart of the village of Jaujac, the in situ installation Red Carpet! Celebrates the 10 years of trail Art and Nature, on my path a Artist past … Deploy the symbolic of the tribute, through the village to link the natural spaces on both sides, a link, a path, a trail, connecting the heart of the village and its inhabitants with the valley. The incarnation of the thread which crosses the eras in Jaujac is a sprig of nature, a communion between nature and man, through art.

Sigh {yes, we needed another one}… I hope your new year {and mine!} is filled with lovely walks on grassy paths through France! Happy New Year ~ see you in 2012!

i’m jealous of dadu shin’s sketchbook

Oh, I love a good sketchbook! I think it’s so amazing to be given a sneak peek into the process, and thoughts in an artist’s mind. Unfortunately, this is all I’ve been able to find out about artist/illustrator Dadu Shin… “I like making pictures, looking at pictures, thinking about pictures and eating ice cream.” All good things, of course! I tried to find out a little more info for you, but alas, nothing. However, in all of my searching I did find these little gems on Dadu’s fashion illustration blog {named i don’t like clothes}:

Well, I DO like clothes… especially that eyeball dress. Love, in fact.
